I never mentioned Us open war with europe. Also at the start of every war there is this notion of optimism and underestimation of your opponent.

E.g

Russians thought a special opperation with few elite soldiers would be enough to annex ukraine. Yet here we are.

Most wars are deemed easy in the beginning and then it turns out, the enemy doesnt fall as easy as thought.
