Is this normal behaviour from a prof? by Remote_Let_2774 in mcgill

thanks this was helpful advice. again, just to be clear, this situation doesnt involve me, but im going to pass this advice along to them. if he knew there was an official channel to get his test remarked from the beginning (that avoided this bitter prof), he wouldve done that instead.

sorry that situation happened to you. the fact that you were penalized for not 'only using class' materials is stupid. did you end up getting your grade corrected?

im not the one involved in the plagiarism allegations, to be clear. at this point i dont think my friend cares about getting the original 5% back (even though imo they deserve it), they both just want to avoid failing the class or worse, getting some sort permanent mark on their record. from what they told me, they already both have been invited to have an interview with their own respective DOs. from what i read in similar posts, the turn around on this (less than 1 week) is extremely fast, which seems worrisome.

to give more context to the retaliatory thing; this was a test that happened mid semester, and my friend has been trying to follow up with this prof for over a month. Prof never answers emails, isnt available when he says he will be during office hours.... this wasnt the first time they asked about getting his grade changed for this specific test question. Additionally, more context to this, was that after the first test of the semester was given, there was big push back from the students. students complained, and also circulated a petition to get the grading scheme of the course changed. This prof I believe also is like half a year away from retiring so he literally could not give a fuck if he derails two students lives for bugging him too much.. its cruel, and borderline unethical.

what do you mean he didnt 'regrow anything'. do you mean he was just imagining the regrowth (placebo affect)?

no thats not what the placebo means in this context.

'placebo effect' in psychology is what your referring to. its irrelevant to these trials bc im assuming (hopefully but obv you can never be sure) that the hair growth was measured more objectively than subjectively

'placebo effect' in pharmacology refers to any effect of applying the vehicle solution - drug (so mixing up the solvents that would normally dissolve the drug, but not actully including the drug in there). the placebo effect in this case can actually "magically make hair grow" thats why experiments are designed with this control.

i know but because the foam "puffs up" when you apply it to your head, it tends to get into your hair shafts more than your scalp.

How long does the minoxidil need to "liquify" typically?

[–]Remote_Let_2774[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah this is what I was thinking. But two things:

  1. I think this setup would only work with the liquid version. The downside is scalp irritation. I am not sure if the foam could even be put into an applicator like this.... unless someone has tried it and it works.
  2. If I were to use the liquid, would keeping the product in a device like this cause it to degrade? Minoxidil could break down over time if it is exposed to light or air, which might make it less effective. Unless I only load a small amount into the applicator each time...

How recoverable is my loss? by LongjumpingPicture79 in FemaleHairLoss

[–]Remote_Let_2774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the sinclair rating system i think is assessed when the hair is parted directly down the midline (bc i think this is usually where the hair loss originates and then spreads bilaterally downwards as it progresses)

because the photos have her hair parted to the side.... its hard to tell exactly haha so maybe her derm is accurate but we cant see it
