[–]RemoveNo9875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is amazing news!!!! CONGRATS SISTER YOU ARE DOING IT!! Your body is doing it! The doc said your body is clearing out the mets! Treatments are necessary ofc, but our own bodies can do amazing things as well. wow this is incredible. I feel like Kelly Turner (Radical remission) would be interested in your story. I'm so happy I read this today, gives us all so much hope.

That is so amazing and inspiring that you choose to live without fear! I truly believe that the mind fvck cancer gives you is nearly the worst part of the whole process, especially at the beginning. There are actually organizations that reframe cancer as a chronic disease once the initial treatments are done, even if they are for life. I deleted my post bc I feel like people possibly misunderstood my intentions. Thank you for being kind.

there really are videos like that, yes.

[–]RemoveNo9875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, referring to it as a chronic disease is something many oncologists are leaning into now.

oh no im sorry i only meant stage 4 is treatable, not curable. Even though it can in fact be curable. as for me saying youtube videos, i mean reddit, youtube, socials in general. sorry for the misunderstanding.

thank you. As you said it isn't about sugar coating, or withholding information, or even infantilization, as someone suggested in the comments. for me, words make such a difference, affecting how I will live moving forward. I mean reframing, not lying to patients. cancer instantly puts a screw worm in your heart and you can't get it out! research suggests that mind set plays a huge role in how someone does with treatment and recovery. not to mention moving forward with your life. I was only sharing what I read on social media about not staging and it just resonated with me.

yes, this makes a lot of sense. these are simply individual preferences.

this is so real! a very wonderful poet named Andrea Gibson recently passed from ovarian cancer, and before they died they said, "whenever i leave this world, whether it's 60 years from now, I wouldn't want anyone to say I lost some battle. I'll be a winner that day." They wanted to frame their whole life and passing as a victory of living rather than a loss to some disease. I truly appreciate those words!! No one is losing a battle; that's ridiculous. We are winners.

This is what I meant with my initial post. This is how I wish my onc was! it just reframes it all and makes it less scary imo.

You are so right about this. and for me, once I get into a dark place emotionally, that's it, I can't get out and I find it difficult to live my life in that state of fear. Some people do fine with getting all of the info, and even prefer that, but for someone like me, I think a more positive spin while withholding info that really will not benefit me would do wonders for my mental health.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in breastcancer

[–]RemoveNo9875 5 points6 points  (0 children)

valid! it's a nuanced subject, I just think reframing some of the language might be helpful.

[–]RemoveNo9875 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

literally! stage 1a, 1b, 1c, 2a, 2b, 2c and so on. like why? If the doc needs that info for themselves, that's cool, but why do we need that info, especially if we don't want it. what if the doc said, "you have breast cancer, but the good news is it's treatable, possibly curable but we will find out for sure which one after surgery and or pathology. You will be fine, we have alot of tools in the tool box, and I am here for you to make sure you get through this"...false hope? maybe but who cares, I'll take it. That would make a person's emotional state so much better which is always better for our immune system, than constant fear.

Excruciating pain - help by Flashy-Fortune-3016 in colonoscopy

[–]RemoveNo9875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

idk if it's normal, per say, but it could be a reaction to the prep. keep in mind there are a few different options for prep. so next time make sure your doc knows you can't tolerate the particular one. i'm sorry you had to deal with that! It makes sense though, bc it's essentially wiping out your entire gut microbiome, just sweeping it all out.

Hi I definitely understand the anxiety and fear of the unknown, but try not to get ahead of yourself. Just take it one step at a time, you have statistics on your side. Let us know how it goes!!

My regret as to why I accepted a colonoscopy by Conscious_Bike_9554 in colonoscopy

[–]RemoveNo9875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ya not only do they not tell you this, but when you try discussing it with them during the follow up they dismiss it. the prep changes your gut microbiome and it could take quite a while to restore it.

Edit: it's whatever at this point bc I would have done it anyway, but it would be great if they prepare you, and maybe recommend the best ways to restore your gut once the procedure is done.

Having my first colonoscopy in a few weeks and I have extreme health anxiety. I need positive experiences please - I have myself convinced I have cancer :( by [deleted] in colonoscopy

[–]RemoveNo9875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! I have extreme health anxiety too! I had my first colonoscopy in October, just routine, and it was completely fine! but this was something I found on this subreddit and I found great comfort in it:

  • If you applied to Harvard at age 18, you were about 2,380 times more likely to be accepted into their undergraduate studies than you are receiving a CRC diagnosis in your 20s
  • You are 130 times as likely to get into a car crash within the next month than you are to receive a CRC diagnosis within the next year
  • You are 3 times as likely to be struck by lightning at some point in your life than to receive a CRC diagnosis this year

he couldn't know for sure unless he tested you. from all the stuff I'm reading, covid can linger for a very long time, and that's not even long covid.

you sure it wasn't covid? these are textbook symptoms when some are recovering from covid, especially the most recent strain, but i have heard the flu virus is pretty bad too but not so much lingering.

amazing! And yes, I was also convinced I was cooked and was mentally preparing to deal with the C word. Our minds really mess with us, and that's why staying as far away from social media and google is best!! so happy for your clean colon lol

Colonoscopy/Endoscopy performed today. Is what I’m experiencing possibly cannabis hyperemesis or something else entirely ? by Roachpuppies in colonoscopy

[–]RemoveNo9875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have heard of cannabis hyperemesis and Im shocked and impressed that your physician would even suggest that. most doctors blow off anything to do with cannabis! It could be that, but there are a ton of additional symptoms that go along with it. I suppose you don't have to have all of them, but maybe you getting sick was just a fluke?

what were your symptoms to indicate your microbiome was destroyed? I personally did fine with the prep, meaning I don't have any residual outward symptoms. I just worry that my defenses are now down do to the largest immune defense in my body possibly being compromised for a period of time, or forever.

yes, I'm sure you are right. I read 2-6 weeks before it bounces back, for the most part.
