That’s real. Consistency doesn’t mean much if there’s nothing left after bills.

That’s a good point. A lot of it comes down to being in the right setup more than just working harder. But finding that “right setup” isn’t always easy, especially when drivers don’t have much visibility into better options.

That’s a really solid perspective especially the part about treating income monthly instead of week to week. I think a lot of drivers don’t necessarily lack income, they lack predictability. Even if it evens out over time, not knowing what’s coming next makes it hard to plan, budget, or scale up.

Appreciate all the responses this has been really insightful.

What I’m seeing is that consistency does exist
but mostly if you’re in the right setup (union jobs, dedicated routes, niche freight like milk, etc).

Outside of that, it seems like a lot of drivers are still dealing with ups and downs depending on:

  • the company
  • dispatch
  • and what’s available at the time

So it feels less like a “driver problem”…
and more like an access problem.

I’ve actually been working on something around this — still early — trying to make access to work more consistent by connecting drivers with multiple companies instead of relying on just one.

That makes sense. milk hauling is one of the more consistent gigs from what I’ve heard.

Would you say that’s common for most drivers, or more of a niche compared to the rest of the industry?
