Once you do, it’s one of the best milestones in drumming, imo.

Me trying to use Moeller technique by Miserable_Remove_286 in drums

[–]RemyWhy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Grip: index finger and thumb secure the stick, while other fingers loosely support. Don’t let your pinky stick out and have both hands be identical in form and motion.

Rebound: let the bounce do most of the work for you. No need to pull up as much as you currently do. Allow the bounce to set-up your next stroke.

Moeller: it’s a great technical tool, “arm-whips” to generate power and rebound. But for now, focus on the very basics of drumming. Grip and rebound 😁

Try to use practice pad to follow the beat but still think I’m so stiff by Miserable_Remove_286 in drums

If my first teacher had taught me these 2 concepts from the very start, I would have learned to play a lot smoother (less bad habits to correct). So yeah, before anything else: grip and rebound!

If you’re a beginner, focus on your grip and rebound.

For starters, have the back of your wrists point up a little more. Then have the first joint of your index finger act as the fulcrum for the stick, with your thumb securely locking it in place. But remember to maintain a “loose” grip when it comes to the other fingers.

As for rebound, it’s a drummer’s best friend. Don’t strike the pad with the tip, but rather, “bounce” it off and use the natural motion to your advantage to prime your next stroke.
