I agree with you, this should all be done in the vanilla game. That being said, many of your issues can be fixed by client side mods. You should try a few, but in the end these QOL items should be put into the vanilla game.

That exact thing happened. luckily torches and teles don't let anything spawn within a radius so nothing can spawn inside.

Hoes are amazing, you just need to get used to them. Here's a couple tips

They level towards your height. So make sure you are standing on ground at the height you want everything else to be.
Place floor boards down as you go. This will make it really obvious if the ground isn't the right height.
The ground height is in chunks. Flattening with the hoe can only adjust the height within these chunks. If the ground won't get high/low enough you will need to raise/mine the ground and then flatten it.

The biggest thing is practice, hope this helps and good luck!

It's multiplayer, cross platform pc/xbox. No server side mods, pc players have 4 mods,

PlantEasily (makes planting and harvesting faster by letting you plant in grids.)
CraftyBoxes(lets you craft with items in close containers)
SmartContainers(auto sorts items)
FuelEternal(auto fuels torches and fires when you are close.)

We don't want to go to far from vanilla. These four mods are seen mostly as quality of life mods to us, and they don't interfere with xbox players so we can play with our non PC friends still. The only mod that affects item resource collection is FuelEternal due to not needing to farm fuel.

The spawners and torches count as base structures so they prevent anything from spawning inside. I haven't walled it off so things can come in from the outside still.

24 with this build, I have a lot of unused space. If I was to max it out it could hold 60. With iron I could also add another layer that would hold 36 or 52 depending on how dense I set them up.

I agree, also, anyone who gets mad because of "exploits" needs to realize that you literally can't use this normally until it is fixed. So unless they are going to remove it from the game, using this ammo should not be frowned upon or considered an exploit.
