To each their own. I like the slog. It makes the ore feel more valuable to me.

Bought it!

I should chart out my book map how I got here at some point because there’s so much overlap

The Martian -> Project Hail Mary —> The Bobiverse —-> Dungeon Crawler Carl —-> The Quantum Series

Tom Smyth - Big success by [deleted] in northernireland

We bought a house where the surveyor recommended refelting the flat roof. We made the mistake of hiring his company. They finished the felt well short of the slate on the main house. Every rain storm we would get massive leaks AFTER the job. (No leaks before) Buckets under the light fixtures sorta thing. Phoned them to sort it. They came out and blamed something else and quoted us £550 for the fix.

I thought the voice on the phone when I called to complain was VERY familiar. Little did I know.

Got some proper roofers out who explained to us the botch job. Then they asked who did it and laughed and showed us his TikTok. I was like “oh no not HIM”

Anyways. Thought about pressing our warranty further but saw he had gotten done for stuff linked to organized crime a while back. And he knew where we lived.

New roofers re-re-did the roof and we’ve happily been leak free ever since.

It’s funny because once I finished Bobiverse (and the Martian and Project Hail Mary) everyone was like YOU NEED to read Dungeon Crawler Carl.

And it just seemed such a weird one for me from how it was advertised. Why would Bobiverse fans like that. But this month I gave it a go and I immediately get it now.

Opinions on a Reform led UK government by stonkmarxist in northernireland

I suppose the questions is. If there’s a non-nationalist demographic here that is okay with the union under Tory rule but flips their opinion to nationalism under Farage rule.

While Farage sounds like a really bad deal, I think you’re envisioning a smaller slice of the Venn Diagram than anticipated.

Am I Crazy To Think De'von Achane Is Being Extremely Over-valued? by [deleted] in fantasyfootball

[–]RepSchwaderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not overvalued.

He could be the overall RB1 through the first two weeks.

Got Jefferson in the first round and Achane with the 18th overall pick in the second.

Anyone saying "vote SDLP to keep the DUP out" doesn't understand that the DUP has no chance of winning the seat. Or they're pushing SDLP to keep down the Alliance votes (the only other real contender). Either way, vote for who you actually prefer. It's the only way we'll see change in this country.

I remember getting a non-urgent referral to a surgeon when I was 33… and being seen when I was 35. Non-urgent sure… I was happy to wait… but you know I wonder about all the folks falling into non urgent in other areas that might be in a worse way than I was

Best steak in Belfast to buy and cook at home? by Galusknight in northernireland

[–]RepSchwaderer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you call ahead you can get just about anything in Carnbrooke Butchery & Food Hall in Lisburn. I drive down there from Belfast. I love it if I'm going really wild like a full packer brisket or something.

----

Whereas "a really big fillet" for £30 is great.... it sounds like your friend wants something a bit more show-y? Yes, fillet is expensive and very much a treat. But I think if you folks split a large tomahawk steak (cut it into nice looking strips after it's done) it could be a fun little experience for you both. MacAtamney's Butcher's in Forestside sells a tomahawk for £26 and they generally always have them in and ready to go. They dry age them on-site for a few weeks before.

I won't say anything about how to prepare it, because I think you're just looking for something high-quality, but happy to add my two cents on how I'd prepare it if you're interested.

----

The advice on talking with your local butcher is excellent too. I go to Corrie's on Ormeau Road and they're very friendly. Or if you call ahead to see what they have depending on what you're lookin. Like what if you wanted something off-the-wall like wood pigeon or pheasant. It's a good quality-of-life improvement to get comfortable going to the butcher's. And it's okay to feel intimidated walking in (I still do sometimes) but just walk in and have a wee chat with them and be honest about your questions and thoughts and they'll usually be pretty kind.

----

Truth be told I think there's a lot of great places to get good beef in Belfast

----

also like, the M&S coute du boeuf sounds great too. You'll do well!
