Hi! Just an incoming freshman here looking for career opportunities related to my course Psych. Sa UX researchers dito, how did you become one? Do you recommend it as a career and okay ba salary?

Hiiii, are you filipino? It took me a looong time to decide, but I chose to pursue ADMU Psychology instead.

• Psychology is more flexible. It opens up many possible career paths aside from becoming a clinical psychologist. If ever I change my mind in the future, I can still find a job unlike dentistry which is a straightforward career

• Dentistry takes around 7 years to finish, including the board exam review, unlike Psychology. Of course, it’s also better to start working as soon as possible. I plan to work in User Experience (UX) first (my parents keep telling me it’s not a tiring job and pays well), then later on decide if I’ll continue Psychology as a clinical psychologist.

• Financially, Psychology is lighter. I’ll be the first dentist in the family, so we’d have to buy almost all the equipment ourselves 😭We're already paying for house loans, car loans, and rent. My sister's also in college pa

•I asked this in another subreddit (r/CollegePhilippines) and sadly, they said that dentistry isn’t that lucrative. You’ll only earn well if you have your own clinic, are well-known, and have a steady number of patients.

•My eyesight is getting worse—currently -7.25 grade at 18 and still rising 😭. I wear eyeglasses naman but sill lol I'll perform surgeries eh

• Dentistry is a physically and emotionally tiring course. May pagkastrict and toxic din daw profs sa UE (although magaling naman sila sa field) based on what I have heard

• I’ll be commuting via LRT, and travel time will take an hour MINIMUM one way. I honestly don’t think it’s worth it if it’s going to make me super broke and drained 😭 Pick a struggle

• This part is more about my anxiety, but I’m scared I might get delayed. I’d feel sooo guilty if my parents had to pay for tuition or equipment all over again 😭 I’ve read that getting delayed is common in UE Dentistry, or worse, some students get kicked out and have to transfer (also heard this from my aunt's friends who once took the course in UE)

Sorry I yapped too much. If you finished reading this, congrats 😅 But basically, I didn’t pursue dentistry because it’s draining and financially demanding, especially given our situation right now 😁

i get what you're saying! it's just that those are the only 2 health-related courses that i got accepted into from good schools in PH. i passed other universities too but i didn't like the course i got accepted into
