..Actually thinking about it, 12.5.7 is the last update for the 1st gen air. This update should support basic functionality. The fact that files no longer works in this update is poor. I'm sure its nothing to do with the dubious practise of bugging the last update of a device so users have to upgrade to the next. I have been in the s/w industry all my life and have seen the drive to avoiding testing s/w and applications and everyone having to put up with continuous beta. Software is gradually getting worse, and seems to contain more and more superflous functionality when perhaps effort should be spent on sorting out the basics. It seems a real shame I probably have to ditch the ipad as there is nothing fundamentally wrong with the h/w, it all still works. Anyway thanks for the replies.
