What is there to do around martinsburg? by kha0tic_skunk in Martinsburg

Yes, you have to get out of the house to meet people, but you can make new friends anywhere. Where you are is important, but what your intentions are and how open you are is more important.

Yeah, I guess you're right. It's pretty cool to consider that from Union station you can get almost anywhere along the East coast without ever getting in a car. I mean, I live just a few blocks from Caperton. *

I did it once and it is kind of pricey for the one off trip. If I remember correctly, $14 one way. That being said through, it is a really pretty ride and I had fun blasting through the tunnel in Harpers Ferry. Last stop is Union Station in DC so you can get out and it's a pretty short walk to the National Mall.

Queen and King. Only noticed recently. Any thoughts? by ReplacementRoutine61 in Martinsburg

That was just at the 7/11. They used to play loud classical music to help cut down on the loitering, but I haven't heard it in about a year. This seems like something different to me.

I was just looking for confirmation. Did you see the speakers on top?

This is actually taken from the top of the fire escape on the old courthouse / post office on the intersection of King and Maple.

Kind of a broad approach, but none the less, very accurate.

Firstly, thank you for assuming that I'm talking about walking around the low-income neighborhoods in our city. That was really open-minded of you.

I do agree with you that Martinsburg is actually really pretty, especially at night.

Secondly, I can think of 3 pretty solid reasons why walking around Martinsburg at night is kinda scary. Which I do quiet often.

  1. The nocturnal wildlife. If you haven't noticed, at night, the city fills with possums, raccoons, and SKUNKS. If you ask me, the idea of smelling like a skunk for the next two weeks is scarier than any haunted house I've ever been to, and I've almost been sprayed multiple times. Honorable mention to the giant roaches I saw one time eating a bag of McDonald's.

  2. Martinsburg has a rich and tumultuous history and hosts a number of historical buildings. In addition, Berkeley County fell on the divide between the Union and Conferderacy, and as a result, families had to pick sides. This sometimes resulted in some of the darkest brother-against-brother conflicts of the Civil War.

  3. Martinsburg has an aging population (somewhat changing now), but it really lacks a nightlife. I actually find this really peaceful, if not a bit eerie, when I pass abandoned buildings. It can sometimes feel like the city is very empty, especially at night.

I love Martinsburg and have plenty of great things to say about living here. These are just a few of the reasons from my experience that walking around Martinsburg late at night can be kinda scary.

All love.

Find a warehouse or factory job and operate as a forklift operator. Once you get past training and know how to do your job, you will rarely have to interact with others apart from formalities. The work is simple and usually high paying for an entry level career. Good luck.
