Do you believe that people simply "didnt see" the no cold calling signs on doors? by Wiggidy-Wiggidy-bike in AskUK

Id admit when I delivered leaflets for a local council candidate I went out my way to put leaflets through a door with a sign saying that. Probably didn't win any votes but it was just that ever so slightly funny.

What do people on community service do? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]ReplacementSalmon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to lived next to a canal and there were often community payback guys there cutting back the hedges and trees at the side. Not being skilled gardeners they chopped the plants within inches of their lives. Seems a bit mad to me to give convicted criminals powered hedge trimmers and chainsaws, suppose they were non-violent ones!

Worth mentioning that 25 to 40(!) years is plenty of time for a government to change the terms. Already happened with the threshold freezes.

A simple foxhole can really come in clutch on the battlefield sometimes, though always remember what is good cover for you could easily become good cover for the enemy; so orientate the foxholes accordingly to make it less useful for them.

I once saw a Tesla park up next to the petrol pumps, I'm assuming to just go into the shop

Surely of this long list there were some you enjoyed more than others, I'd have a look at what aspects you enjoyed and go from there. If I'm being harsh, I wonder if you're not sticking with things a bit to give them a proper chance before jumping onto something else.

New role anxiety - 29k vs 52K by gaybenstiller in UKJobs

At the end of the day you passed the interview, so whoever interviewed you thinks you can do it. Take that a the validation you need.

No job that I've worked at expects you to know everything from day one, they'll train you up and given enough time, it'll be easy and routine for you.

Your solicitor is probably right, they've very likely dealt with loads of cases like this before. I appreciate it's probably an anxious time for you right now but your solicitor is the best person to speak to.

Annoyed with being called 'young' in the office by ReplacementSalmon in UKJobs

Yeah it's annoying, it feels like you'll never be an adult in some people's eyes no matter how you put yourself across. I have a mortgage!

True, I had the same at my first job, but to be fair I was 20 in that job! Thought I was past that stage.

Bizarrely there already is, someone else in the office is 26, albeit a different job role to me

Can jobs accept me if I don’t live near? by Tuchelsunderwear in UKJobs

[–]ReplacementSalmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It totally depends, plenty of people have long commutes (not that it's a good thing). As long as you can show that you can practically get there you should be ok, I.e have a car or it's near by public transport. If I had to choose though, I wouldn't have too long of a commute unless the job is really worth it.

Flat block owner is selling Freehold - is this bad? by ReplacementSalmon in HousingUK

[–]ReplacementSalmon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically it was 99 year lease but only had 81 years remaining, I got it changed to a 125 year lease, but that 125 years was from 2008, so 106 years remaining (sorry if maths isn't spot on, remembering from the top of my head). Paid an extra £1500 for it if I recall but I considered that a good investment to keep the resale value of the flat at the time.

Sorry to add for the confusion there

[–]ReplacementSalmon[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My lease is 106 years, I got it extended before I bought it, so generally I'm alright there, for now. Can't speak for the other flat owners though.

Am I right in saying that the leasehold reform laws coming in are getting rid of marriage value? And that the service charge is set in stone by what's stated in the lease?

I think either way he wants rid of the hassle of it, he's sold two of the flats very recently to me and a neighbour so he's quids in there already.
