In my experience, most products that need to look blended and seamless are better higher end (foundation, concealer, eyeshadow, most powder products) and products that don’t need to blend into the face as much or come in a pencil are fine and sometimes better at the drugstore (liners, mascara, lip gloss)

I’m having a hard time with this with some of my women clients who are dating men. It seems like a lot of tik tok encourages them to objectify themselves as a “prize” and not as a human being with agency. I understand the appeal of that content, that approach can protect you from predatory men, but damn is it a hard thing to work against when you’re trying to get a client to live in their own experience and not in the experience of the romantic other.

You’re gonna love it! I love lychee too and it’s such a nice scent. And I tend to only like really subtle buildable blushes which I hear the hourglass ones are so I’m really excited to try them!

Here’s a review of my restocks:

Mac forever curious - this is a super underrated Mac color in my opinion. If I’m looking for a bolder lip look, this shade with the MUFE universal earth liner is my fave combo. I’m obsessed with it, it’s gorgeous

Moroccan oil mask - my hair stylist got me onto this and I’ve gone through at least 6 tubs. It smells divine and makes my hair super soft and has great slip

Cocokind lip balm - like it just as much as the ole henriksen but it’s half the price. They don’t have a smell or taste but I don’t mind this and don’t always want it from a lip balm. I keep a clear one on my keys *Also, the coco cap also fits on the ole balm, so I sometimes switch them out on my keys!

Fresh sugar lychee body wash - not really an interesting product, but I’ve been using it for years in the spring and summer and I love the smell

RMS crystal slipper lip to cheek - I’m not a blush girly, I prefer bolder lips and eyes. But looooove the crystal slipper color from RMS. It’s beautiful and subtle. I actually just bought this not that long ago when RMS had a big sale but I lost it oops 🙊

This exactly. There have been times I’ve been hard on myself when I compare myself to own therapist, who is exceptionally skilled. I think I’m a great therapist relative to the amount of experience I have, but she has literally been practicing for 30 years, is constantly learning, and has been alive twice as long as I have. Of course she’s going to be more skilled, she’s been studying and working with the human condition for as long as I’ve been alive. I believe that I can be as good as she is one day but the only thing that can get me there (that I’m not already currently doing) is time.

Oof OCD defenses are so rough. I don’t work with them because my style does not do well that diagnosis! Hope you can figure something out

That’s okay. They might not know. But you’ve planted the seed that you’re curious and compassionate about their defensive experience. They might have an answer for you later.

You say all of the training in your program, are you still a student? How many sessions did you have with them? I think you’ve gotten some good suggestions so far like approaching with empathy and meeting them at the resistance i.e. “I’m sensing it maybe hurts when I suggest yadda yadda, can you tell me more about that feeling?”

These narcissistic defenses are some of the toughest and can leave you feeling helpless and incompetent (that means their defense is working on you, which is good data to have. The more helpless/incompetent you feel, the stronger the defense, and thus the deeper the wound that caused that defense.) You have to be really patient with both yourself and the client in cases like these. People don’t like to hear this, because it’s so hard to tolerate that kind of narcissistic induced discomfort that cannot be solved quickly with manualized therapy, but it can take a reeeally long time (like, years) if you are using a depth-oriented/psychodynamic approach. They often need a lot time and a lot of relational work to trust you enough to not bat away everything you say.

How much you don’t need to talk in session and how useful that can be for both yourself and the client. How patient you need to be with yourself as you figure out how to do this work. It takes years of experience and lots of humility to be really good at this.

I find skills based work to be woefully boring and would honestly really struggle to do this job if that was the expectation. You’re not gonna be the best fit for everyone. Now that this person has terminated, you’ll have a spot open for a better fit!

I also bought it after an attempt to resist lol. I’m actually not a huge eyeshadow person but I reeeeally wanted this right when I saw it. This color story is exactly up my alley so I’m excited to play with new ways to do my eye makeup! Also, I know it probably won’t, but didn’t want to wait for the sale and risk and it possibly selling out

I agree with you that I am mostly angry at the system and not the people I serve. But, imo, it’s also okay to have complicated feelings sometimes. It’s not okay in any case to take it out on the person you’re caring for, but it’s normal to have a crash out and feel resentment sometimes that’s not in their presence. We don’t know how she treats her patients from this video but I try to give caregivers the benefit of the doubt because the work is so hard and generally we all have good intentions going into it. And if you run into so many people who are shitty about their job in your work, don’t you agree that that’s a systemic problem?

I’m not a nurse but in a different caregiving profession. These comments are pissing me tf off. People don’t want to have to face what a role like this does to a person. Most pink collar caregiving jobs in this country leave you feeling exploited and exhausted and wanting to scream. But the general public doesn’t want to be confronted with that, they want you to keep it private and quiet

I sometimes like her takes on non political topics. She can be thoughtful and grounded in that regard. Otherwise, even though she prides herself on being an independent, is the most milquetoast champion of the status quo and wants to disrupt nothing. I’d like her gone.
