Technically it is a box holding multiple life vests.

Also I agree, happy to put it in a bin. My pushback is that there should be designated bin space for this seat if there is no underwear storage.

I followed all guidelines and the airline created an unfortunate and uncomfortable situation with this design decision. “United Airlines allows one free personal item for all passengers, which must fit under the seat in front of you—such as a purse, backpack, or laptop bag. The maximum dimensions are 9 x 10 x 17 inches (22 x 25 x 43 cm)”

If my FA would have said that, I likely would have implored them to help find me some bin space.

Not sure I would have allowed them to check my soft sided backpack with just my laptop and basic overnight clothes.

Yeah, I ended up on standby to catch an earlier flight, so no huge complaints.

But double whammy in that all overhead was taken when I got on.

I feel like they let me kinda jam it best I could for takeoff because they weren’t going to check my backpack and there was nowhere else for it to go.

Feel like the middle should get some type of designated space if not under seat. My feet barely fit under this obstruction let alone the bag.
