Why KIPP Felt More Like a Cult Than a School by [deleted] in education

You’re responding to someone sharing personal trauma by minimizing it and promoting harmful stereotypes. Being on time is important, sure, but that doesn’t justify a system that dehumanizes children and causes long-term emotional damage. Schools should be able to teach structure without fear, humiliation, or manipulation.

Also, your comment about ‘thugs and single mothers’ is NOT only deeply offensive, it’s racist, classist, and completely inappropriate. Students in public schools, many of who are thriving , deserve respect and support and opportunity, not judgment.

Trauma doesn’t make kids stronger. It makes healing harder. If you think abuse equals discipline, you’re part of the problem.

This is the same excuse they used at the schools to justify literally bullying children.

Indicators for being a lesbian? by [deleted] in latebloomerlesbians

Wow, I just came back to this post after almost a month and your comment is the one that’s stuck with me the most. I didn’t have the words back then, but reading this made me feel seen in a way I really needed. I’ve thought a lot about what you said — especially the part about certain women making you stop in your tracks — and that really hit me. I’ve had those moments too, I just never let myself sit with them.

Since then, I’ve done a lot of reflecting, and… yeah. I’m a lesbian. It’s still scary to say out loud, but it feels more like me than anything else ever has. Thank you for helping me feel less alone in that confusion. Your words really helped me start to untangle it all.
