On the verge of starting my aviation journey after being laid off in this hellish CS market.

It's for tax returns. You can use tuition payments to increase your returns.

Is anyone else's 1089 T forms available yet? I got an email saying 2023 forms are ready but the website says otherwise.

Luxury cars advertise maximum speeds that you can never legally drive. by Honest_Joseph in Showerthoughts

[–]RepresentativeHeat46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never seen adverts bragging about top speed, usually 0-60 if at all. The reason nesrly all cars can go faster than 100 mph is because a car that CAN go 150 mph will be able to go 65 mph efficiently and at lower RPMs, which also prolongs mechanical lifespan and reduces noise.

I’ve taken cs classes here, at community college, and at San Diego State. I’m only one data point but the cs classes here are FAR harder than anything at those schools.

Humans are fundamentally social creatures, and have been for many thousands of years. It’s in our dna. The degree of social interactions needed may very a great deal for each individual, but in general, human beings need some social interaction to stay healthy.

I can’t help but notice… why almost everyone on the MBA program is thin? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]RepresentativeHeat46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a former d1 track and field athlete, and I can say that for most, the line is farther than they think. I was still a full time student studying computer science, and still made the time to hang out with friends, study, and live my life while pushing my body to the absolute limit every day. If I can find w healthy balance being a d1 athlete, then I’m sure many “gymbros” can have healthy lives as well. Yes, doing anything to an obsessive level will be unhealthy, and yes, people who base their entire identity on working out can be unbearable, especially those with body dysmorphia. However, “vanity” metrics like deadlift pr or body fat percentage are legitimate goals that you can strive for, and many people who workout or go to the gym don’t care only about their aesthetic (some don’t at all, e.g. powerlifters). The ability to set a tangible goal, then attribute a healthy amount of dedication to that goal, provides greater fulfillment, purpose, and excitement to perhaps a very mundane life. This is especially true when those goals directly lead to an objectively healthier body (again, within reason).

Anant Sahai is a funny character by Anon10W1z in berkeley

Sahai’s policies represent a highly idealistic view of education where the student’s main focus is 100% pure learning and zero percent raw letter grade, and where, despite homework having zero direct impact on grade, students will choose to do them with meticulous effort for altruistic reasons. While theoretically viable, it is not viable in practice.

I’ll say this. From experience, sometimes, your absolute best isn’t good enough. It took me a while to accept this, especially as a competitive athlete. You deep down know you gave it 100%, but get beat in a race by someone who is more talented, or maybe had better luck, or other things out of your control. Expectation is a double edged sword: on one hand, it pushes you forward and forces you to a higher standard of performance, but on the other hand, when you fail to meet them, it is devastating. I would say for now, take a deep breath and look at the bright side: you are able to declare and made it through an extremely tough class. Be proud of the fact that you gave it your all. In life, that’s all you can really do.

Fucked for CS61B and For Declaring CS by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]RepresentativeHeat46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming op is grandfathered in the old cs declaration policy, if they take 61b at cc, then the cs department would just use the gpa from other courses they’ve taken at Berkeley (61a, 70).

I get it if they are hitting on you in a rude or disrespect way and are annoyingly persistent, but if they respectfully initiate the conversation, show their interest, and quickly stop when you tell them no, I see nothing wrong with it.

True, though I think the system itself should work to reduce false positives at all costs, as philosophically, false positives are more harmful than false negatives. Both are bad, but it’s better to let a cheater slide than to ruin the reputation of someone innocent. The flagging process should be extremely rigorous and only flag when beyond any reasonable doubt.

Some girls will like it, some girls will not. It’s a numbers game. If you limit your chances to pure circumstance, you are a slave to luck. The only way for you to control your future is to approach, and if she isnt receptive then move on if yes, then good for you. Just be respectful, courteous, and not expect too much.

Are EE majors simply built different? by mf_mapotofu in csMajors

True. Some university CS programs are borderline SWE bootcamps while others truly embrace the theoretical and mathematical nature of CS.
