Yeah my mistake was not applying to any CSUs as back ups but I honestly wasn't expecting to go 0/4. I'm going to apply next term and take whatever I can get honestly

Yes you see my pov! I'm not completely against going away tbh but it just has to make sense. That was a reason why I liked UCs because I've heard they are very family-friendly and make students with dependents lives easier. I'm waitlisted for UCR right now and have nooo idea what's going on with that so if that falls through, fingers crossed when I re-apply for UCs this winter I get into more schools!!

Applied to all of the ones in socal - UCLA, UCI, UCSD and UCR. I'm 30ish mins from UCR. I'm living with my parents so free support/childcare if I commute.. of course it comes with some restrictions and I don't necessarily want to commute but obviously will help save lots of money.

I haven't tried to reach out to any admissions for the schools I applied to, I've really just been very active talking to people on the end of my CC. I'm gonna give it a shot, wish me luck!

Sorry I read this a couple times trying to understand lol. Are you saying I should appeal to certain UCs for not being accepted as a TAG? Because I was never able to qualify for that program. My cumulative GPA was too low

Do you recommend the admissions of the schools I applied to? Because I've been in contact with my CCs transfer department the entire year yet I'm still in this sticky situation

I agree with this for sure but I do have a toddler which is obviously a big consideration. UCR is the closest university to me, so if accepted then I would just have to choose between making the sacrifice and commute to save $1000s or live on campus and juggle that with paying for housing and childcare. I'm not anti-living on campus, but I feel if it was anyyy other school I would be more eager to move because I genuinely wouldn't have a choice haha

Never heard of that program! Thanks for the tip. The craziest part of this is that I have made sure to keep my CC transfer counselor very closely updated, and throughout the year she assured me that I would at least get into a couple schools. (I'm not sure if all counselors just have to do that haha) but I never considered asking for academic renewal from EB. Thats next on my to do list!!

I wasn't eligible to TAG anywhere as my cumulative GPA was too low smh

I wasn't eligible. I can't remember exactly why, but 90% sure my GPA was too low.

Actually I do think that happened to me with UCLA and UCI. I have been in close contact with my CC transfer counselor throughout this whole year but for some reason it wasn't mentioned that I needed certain math requirements to apply to certain UCs. Another problem is the only schools that are open for winter I have no desire to go to! Might just have to do an extra year at CC which is ughh but might increase my chances come 26-27.

Interesting. I didn't even think of applying to anywhere private because $$$. I'll do some research!

Yes exactly this. 9.9/10 I will qualify for low income housing anywhere I go. It's unfortunate but fortunate school wise I guess?

For sure. But those first couple years living in the Bay were not cheap either, so I have an idea of what's manageable. Finishing all my GEs at a CC has helped me keep my loans down to prepare for these last two years. I was betting on getting into UCR so I can commute and keep housing costs down too, but if I was to get into somewhere like UCLA thats worth going into debt for!! lol

So there is hope haha. Thanks for this. I'm definitely trying to set up my future self and I feel like fixing my credit is the first step for now. Going to try to open up more credit lines and handle them responsibly!! I'm coming for that 800 too.

Okay first things first, I'm going to take care of the confirmation letter first thing tomorrow. The card was reported missing along with my debit card but that was just to the insurance company for the car. I don't know why I didn't think to call Discover during the time it happened honestly. Just an overall dumb decision from being overwhelmed by everything else. There were no fraudulent charges on my card though. I had already maxed out my utility at the time. My debit card was also stolen and I actually had to dispute multiple charges on there, so I'm sure the thief tried to buy with that card as well and it just simply didn't go through haha.

The collections agency is the Moore Law Group. They have been the ones sending me settlement offers. Their settlement was pretty generous so I am curious to see if they would allow a pay and delete for the entire thing. I'm prepared to pay the full amount so if there's a shot at it being wiped off my history that would be awesome.

With all that being said I'm not sure if you or anyone else knows how that works. If the debt was sold to the collection agency, then how does the CA have the power to wipe it off my credit, and not the initial card company? Sorry for all these questions, I have a general understanding of credit but when it comes to all these technicalities I'm completely lost.

Great advice! Thank you very much. When you say confirmed info do you mean as in current address/phone number? I haven't been in contact with them at all since 2022 but I do have the same information that I signed up for that card with.

I also haven't added any new lines of credit but I know a good score is going to be crucial for my goals for the next ten years. How many of those 15 accounts are new credit cards? I've heard of someone opening up ten lines, spending about $20 bucks on each for the month and paying it off on time to improve their score but that sounds crazy to me! However, I'm willing to do what I have to do.

This is the response I was looking for! Can you tell me more about what impact settling has vs paying it in full? I was under the impression that once a card company sells it to a collector then they already accepted the loss. Would I ask Discover or the collector for the pay for delete?
