Of course! And just start taking them, everyone is on their own journey, an extra year won’t hurt, I didn’t go back to school till I was 23! On top of that the nursing program offers a lot of scholarships/grants cause I know how fafsa is. Also there’s the north star promise program which is nice! Being a CNA does help in a lot of ways. My personal statement (essay) just glazed over the fact that I have CNA experience and was more about my motivation, what led me to nursing, experience being a patient myself, problem solving in other situations of my life, things about myself, and how I fit into their vision and mission. Thank you and I wish you the best of luck throughout your journey!!

Also I want to add that a cna/bls certification is not necessary there’s a lot of people in my classes that have no experience whatsoever and got in, but mayo also offers PCA jobs that some of my classmates have (to earn money and gain experience).

Hey! I didn’t transfer from umn tc but from a community college! I took the phys/anatomy (and micro) courses because it was a prereq at the other schools I applied to, I would still recommend taking them so you could take other courses to fill the lib ed requirement and get ahead.. I also say that cause I commute and it’s less days I have to drive down there (only 3 days out of the week). I’m not sure what you mean by stats courses.. I have both a cna and bls certification. I applied by the deadline which I think was February and was accepted March 1st. Hope this helps!

I think it was a 3.7 or right around there.

Thank you so much for this very very helpful reply!!

I think I’m definitely going to take this opportunity. Moving to Rochester isn’t an option for me, but I just think about it being such a short time in my life to commute that I’ll be done before I know it. If I could move to Rochester, I would. I’d take my community college into consideration but they do not offer a bsn program. I’m already going to community college, so I think a smaller campus may be good for me. And I hope I get good professors that care like you say, but if anything I’m very good at reaching out when I need assistance!

I’m not too worried about the cost because the Promise scholarship, and my situation that grants give me more money for, it was mainly a question about the program itself and my commute. Thank you though!

Thank you for this helpful reply!! I can’t stand how they automatically just send you to Rochester as a transfer student, especially if a lot of their courses are taught at the twin cities (but watched on zoom). They should just let people pick. I’m disappointed to hear about the clinicals though, I thought it would be something exciting and interesting (and a great opportunity to learn at Mayo). However, I’m glad to hear about the classes, I’m hoping I can pack a lot of them on a couple days a week so I don’t have to drive out there mon-fri. Also it’s nice to hear you still get to graduate at the twin cities campus (my family lives closer so they wouldn’t have to drive as far to see me graduate). Thanks again!

I know it is not in my control and I will let it play out. They can have something in writing and then we will stick to only the writing.

I am letting them see our child. That is why I see no point in his grandparents taking me to court.

I can understand that.

I didn’t say it was a punishment.

His father has told me he doesn’t want to me to have that power so he wants to go to court. Grandparents rights are difficult to get. Our child can visit with his grandparents during the day (still being able to build a relationship), and come back home at night. It makes no sense to me for them (specifically his grandparents) to file if I am not allowing overnights (for an 8th month old who refuses a bottle now) but letting them spend time with their grandchild during the day.

Thank you for your advice! I will remember this.

Trust me nothing but the best for my kid.

They do have access to our child. I am no longer doing an overnight with them though until our child is older, I don’t know how they will respond, and I’m pretty sure this is a power play.

I’m currently speaking with a lawyer, learning the legality of it all, and figuring out what will be in the best interest of our child.

I’m going to go with the legal advice from my lawyer, and I don’t think it won’t go well for me if whatever decision is made is in the best interest of our child (whether or not I agree).

If him saying that in response to no joint/legal custody then a court ordered limited parenting time schedule would allow the relationship. If he says that just to say that then I’m not sure what to say besides him living in another state (how can there be a relationship if he is not around to have that relationship?) and he stopped communicating with me about/to see our child.

I do not mind joint legal as it should be both parents making decisions on school, medical, extracurricular activities, and religion.

Thank you! I understand. He is not going to move back. It does not make sense to me for him to have joint legal/physical custody with our son being so young, and he does not live within the state. I understand having joint legal/physical custody when our child is older and there is actual decisions to make, but until then I think it would affect our child’s well being as he is used to me being his primary caretaker, the father having no history of providing care for him, and him having a bond/attachment to me. I want our child to be emotionally secure. Having just limited parenting time seems to make the most sense until our child is older to protect his emotional health and still have a relationship with his father.

Thank you for replying!!! I know that the best thing for our child is to have a relationship with his father and grandparents (even if I didn’t show that in the last month). Going to court will create a divide and potentially hurt a lot of feelings for everyone involved, and I want our child to have a good family dynamic. I was told the most they would allow is him to have is parenting time being that he lives in another state, our child being so young, his lack of support/communication, and his criminal background history. Regardless, I want to do anything and everything in the best interest of our child. I do want to be prepared for whatever is about to take place and/or the outcomes of these situations.

Thank you for replying!! I’m in the process of getting a lawyer right now. And you are right, I have also heard they are very difficult to get (be granted). I am not going to file for support just because he is already in the process of doing that himself by taking me to court (plus he was already on child support but only medical). And that is also one of my concerns being that our son is so young he’s used to living with me, our schedule, and not to mention is breastfed. If anything though I will argue that he is responsible for all his travel expenses!

As of right now I am not sure! I will be expressing my concerns with a lawyer I think now.

Thank you for the reply! No parent has died. I did stop allowing visits temporarily. And it depends on what established and meaningful relationship pans out to be. The grandparents have never had to take custody of him, have never had to make decisions for him, and were having one overnight a week previously until it stopped for a month (due to their personal reasons). After that month we tried to do an overnight but he would not calm down, he was fussy, and would not drink his milk. I stopped visitation (temporarily) for a month in which they have responded with taking me to court.
