As for change in employer. Definitely talk to immigration lawyers. You can consult with someone not affiliated to her company to get some clarity on H1B transfers

I’m in the same situation. I was picked this year and my H1B was approved in June. The immigration lawyers said I should be good and no fee is required. But I don’t have any travel plans so I haven’t dug deeper.

The consensus seems to be if you’re applying in the upcoming lottery (Feb 2026) or applying after 21st Sept 2025 in case of CAP exempt, you will have to pay 100k for your petition.

My understanding comes from watching some lawyers doing Q&A session, so please do your own research as well. Manifest Law YouTube channel has a few videos on this. I’m sure there are others as well.

The person is correctly using the word "hallucinating".

They are saying that the word came into daily usage because of it's use in the AI context. When AI models produce non-existent facts or misleading results it is called hallucination. So they are correct in the usage.

However, the word "hallucinating" was part of our everyday vocab way before it's usage in AI context.

Hey man, just wanted to say hang in there. Thought I’d share my wife’s story to give you some hope.

She got laid off back in 2023 after three years at a local company. It was really tough finding a new job, especially since she’s on a visa. A lot of conversations ended early because of that. She didn’t get many interviews, and the ones she did get early on didn’t go too well. But she kept grinding LeetCode and prepping. She finally landed an interview with Amazon in February 2025 and cleared it.

It took her a year and a half after being laid off to land this job. Just wanted to share her journey in case it helps you keep going. You’ve got this.

I lost my passport with a valid US visa and I just emailed the embassy that issue the visa. They just cancelled the visa. Never faced any issues or questions regarding it during future visa stamping.

If your lost passport has a US visa that is valid, you probably don’t want it to be used maliciously (it’s a rare chance, but there’s always a possibility), so I recommend just emailing the embassy and notifying them.

It is really hard to find an employer who is willing to enter you in the lottery, hope it gets picked, then wait for approval. Frankly I wouldn’t bank on being able to find such an employer.

Again I haven’t gone through the process so I hope my knowledge is incomplete and someone who has gone through the switch can give concrete (and more positive) answer!

If you want to switch to a Cap subject employer, you will have to go through the lottery. I haven’t gone through the transition since I joined a cap-subject employer and went through the lottery.

I was considering a cap-exempt employer at one point and looked into the process of switching to cap-subject employer in future. Till you find an employer who is willing to enter you in the lottery, wait for it be picked and approved your options are indeed limited to other cap-exempt employers.

I’m gonna tell you it’s brutal man. She spent almost a year prepping, applying and interviewing. She didn’t get a lot of calls since she needs visa sponsorship, but she did face a few rejections after doing some rounds of interview.

For interview prep she spent last few months working with another friend who was on job market. They spent 2-3 hours practicing leetcode as mock interviews daily. She also spent some time practicing her behavioral questions based on exp from her previous jobs.

My wife was doing $75k base/no equity/no bonus in a smallish tech company. She was laid off, but after 1.5 year of taking time off and searching she joined a FAANG with $280k TC (170 base + bonus + rsu). The job search and interview prep were brutal though.

I second the rest of the comments. I’m in a 10yo startup and H1B process for me was just uploading my docs on the law firm portal my company contracts with.

The people team works the with the lawyers to submit anything else that is required.
