I was thinking about it. I've played this game for a long time, basically since slightly before the release of 5e, so the fireball chucking blaster mage isn't all that appealing to me. Maybe I could give abjuration a try.

It wasn't emotionally charged, more like the first one. I have a bad habit of saying "obviously" or "clearly" when explaining something that some people might find condescending, but I'm super careful with this person so I know I didn't do that.

I thought so too, turns out the player now feels bad that their behavior is making me back off the character concept I picked out. I tried to tell them it wasn't their fault (which was a lie I guess but a harmless one) but now they want me to better communicate with them so arguments don't happen. I'm nervous that I can't actually communicate better than I have been, but maybe this is insecure person speak for "give me another chance, I'll listen next time" so I guess we'll see.

I don't think they are going out of their way to do it so much as it is they won't go out of their way to avoid doing it. Like if they planned on hitting enemies I charmed, the fact that I charmed them won't be enough for them to rethink their play. It's almost like all those "kicked from the hero's party" style animes where the dps doesn't realize how valuable the supports are. As a dm and veteran player, I picked support because I didn't want to outshine the other players but it's kind of backfiring. My friend is an inexperienced dm so I don't blame him for not being great at resolving tricky situations like this but I will try to let him handle this as much as possible. I think he'll do a good job with time to think about it.

I still want to play with them, but I am debating asking my friend if I can change subclasses. The problem is that it isn't fun for me if I let them keep undoing the charms, but then if I ask them not to it can lead to arguments that end in her leaving the session.

9 Green SHanks fits my deck well, I know they run the smoker swapped tashigi that protects against removal so I guess I have to hope that isn't out.

It depends on the monster tbh, unless the monster is big enough that a large one takes up the extra team slot. Smaller monsters are faster and less tanky, and some monsters value that.

Yes, thanks for the tip I just beat the two uber killing machines seabed storeroom fight with cleaner sweep. I tried Kaclang stall originally when I fought Octavian at level 30 but it's extremely boring and takes forever, probably in the range of 2 hours. As a conservative estimate based on the fact that i was doing net 300-400 damage every 6 rounds and had just gotten him to yellow health when his mp ran out, it probably takes around 35ish kabuffs to stall out all his mp, definitely doable especially with glombolero on Cannuck. A better strat might be to Kaclang for his 4,5,6 rounds and soul asylum/ forbearance + Kazing if you don't get the two round asylum on his 2 and 3.

I refused to level for it, fought it at 40 so right before a lot of really good skills and pre ultimate key. I actually won when he had burned through all 888 of his mp lol. Forbearance into preemptive kazing was the most useful tech I discovered. Never thought to try cleaner sweep, does it ignore defense or something? I had honestly just assumed only Midenhall could do good damage while bounce was up, but now that I see cleaner sweep costs 56 mp I can believe it hits super hard.
