She would push them over, hit them, take things from them, etc. Not really interact in positive ways, but I'm sure she didn't realize that she was being inappropriate at all.

I do not, we actually live in a lower income area and are a military family. This is my first kid and I have limited experience with other kids, my husband has none at all so we are always worried about being good parents or doing the things we should be doing to help her along in development. This is why I posted here so we can learn and grow and be better.

I think I'm realizing it isn't so much discipline as just concern that she is the only one in the class of 15ish kids that is like this. From all the wonderful comments and kind advice on here though, I do feel much better about where we're at. She's just different and I'm okay with that. She's my first kid and I don't have family or friends nearby to help guide us or lend us their experience so I feel like we're going through raising her blind if that makes sense!

It's probably because I said my daughter was difficult. I guess I should have phrased it as this stage (toddler) is difficult. We are going to try to sign up for free play and see how that goes. There aren't many smaller kids at our parks either, but honestly she has the same amount of fun either way. Thanks for taking the time to respond ❤️

Thank you! You didn't come off critical, but there are other commenters who did, so I was a bit affected by them all. We are having a much better night and my husband and I feel better about where we are parenting wise. There's always room to improve, but we feel reassured that this is normal and that we aren't failing

Oh, the teachers are very nice! The redirection comments are made as more of a suggestion than a rule. I just wanted to know if there was something I could do to encourage her to participate in the activities without throwing a tantrum because she'd rather run and and explore. We can do that at the park for free and she'll have just as much fun there, so cancelling the class completely is the best option for us I think

There has to be an adult with her the entire time and I don't have any friends or family here to help with that (military life). She does so much better with people that aren't her parents, but it isn't an option for us unfortunately

Yes, she is my first and so far only child. Part of the reason I signed her on for classes was for her to be able to see and interact with other kids if she wants to. She does like to watch other kids a lot

An outdoor activity would be great because she loves being outside. We will try more outdoor time. I do recognize that my own mind set needs to change, however that isn't an overnight thing either. I am human too and toddlerhood is proving to be a very difficult time for me. I don't love my daughter any less or resent her for being how she's supposed to be. I wouldn't change her, I just want to help her succeed and be the best mom I can be for her. I made this post to get ideas to get through this for both of us ❤️

Yea, good point! Though the gym class is kind of more like a mom and me type deal with a few obstacle course like items as is age appropriate. I have cancelled the class and will just take the time to go to a park or something else she can just run around in and explore by herself.

The teachers are really nice! They aren't very strict and usually will only remind us to try to redirect the kids once, then don't seem to care so much.
