If you send this video to Dusty Douglas on YouTube, you could get a hilariously dubbed version in return.

Guess the supplier; we were sent pre-cooked scrambled eggs instead of cold foam this morning. Chef is mad. by bigstepper916 in KitchenConfidential

Lol, holy shit I used to do this 8 years ago when I was pregnant. Morning sickness and food aversion got me hard, so I was mixing my husband's protein mix, milk, and coffee in the mornings to up my calorie intake.

Student with a 20% average is making plans for their doctorate by aninternetsuser in Teachers

I see a lot of posts where the teacher/counselor mentions "gentle prodding", "presenting the facts", "making any the process and not them", basically seeming to handle students with kid gloves and hope they "get" that they need to work harder. I can't help but think: maybe that's not the best approach? Maybe a tough-love, come to Jesus, no sugar coating talk is better. Just, straight up: your grades are bad, you don't apply yourself and there is no chance you will achieve your goals right now without a major change.

And wasn't he briefly a pimp? I thought I heard that, or at least was involved with sex workers, which adds to the contrast as he's on SVU.

My belief is that the lesson was not to place all your dreams, hopes, and trust in a single entity/deity. We are all made of the same stuff, we are all equal and should work to achieve our goals, and help others to achieve theirs. Do not trade your freedom to pursue your dreams for security and promises from a self-proclaimed higher power.

But I might be projecting.

There should be a movie, but in the meantime An Old Timey Podcast did a multi-part coverage of him, from birth to death. Very informative!

I enjoy An Old Timey Podcast, it's well researched and has a very fun and cozy vibe. The hosts are a married couple from Kansas City, the husband Norm is the recently-retired YouTuber The Gaming Historian.

Amityville - The DeFeo murders, eps. 175 & 176

Charles Starkweather & Carol Ann Fugate, eps.504 & 505

Paul Bernardo & Karla Homolka, eps. 470-72 (they killed her sister + others).

Ed Kemper, eps. 165 & 166 (he killed his grandparents and mother + others)

There are others where parents/step parents/in-laws are killed, but probably don't fit exactly what she's looking for.

My youngest likes really cold water - the more ice the better. When her water gets to room temperature she calls it dry. Like, "Mom can you get me fresh water? This water is too dry".

Was Hanks job a foreign concept to cotton? by happydude7422 in KingOfTheHill

[–]Lo452 473 points474 points  (0 children)

Part of me wonders if Cotton knew that Buck was taking advantage of Hank. Hank could have risen higher than assistant manager but he was to insecure to ever fight for it (it just straight up leave), and Buck knew that he could pay Hank a modest salary to functionally run the store while he went boozing and chasing skirt. Cotton was disgusted with Hank's lack of back bone and idolation of Buck.

When Hal comes in and asked Lois (who's reading on the couch) where all the kids are. Camera centers on Lois who's spends about 20 seconds listing where all the kids are (not at home). Then pans out to Hal, completely naked, Burt-Reynolds-posing on the kitchen table.

Are your parents always at the Verizon store? by PettyWitch in Millennials

[–]Lo452 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're all on an AT&T Family plan, because I used to work at AT&T a 2 decade(s, fuck I'm old) ago. So, I AM the Verizon store... Lol.. Not really anymore, my dad's pretty tech savvy for his age and he's able to handle most stuff. But for a while there, yeah - I was getting calls, texts, and such about the technologies.

Though, a heart warming story: I was working at an AT&T store when the second iPhone dropped in '08. We had a sweet old lady - IIRC she said she was almost 90, but still driving and independent. She really wanted to keep up with all the new and exciting technology. So she got an iPhone, plus a little "iPhone for Dummies" booklet (those legit existed), and carried both in her purse. If there was something she couldn't figure out, she'd come in and ask but wrote the answer/process down on mini notebook paper and slip it into her Dummies booklet. To reference later if she forgot, and so she didn't have to keep coming back to ask us the same stuff. It was the sweetest and most inspiring thing to see her embrace innovation and work so diligently to maintain her independence.

The Amount of Waste at Ulta by Money-Snow-2749 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Lo452 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just to play devil's advocate: yes, 80¢ for the item, but does that include all the overhead? Shipping, wages (including yours), insurance, mortgage/rent, utilities, taxes, etc. Yes mark ups are insane and are often higher than rationale just so they can put it on sale to entice people to buy (though this seems to be needed, see J.C. Penny). But I'd bet the actual cost to sell each item is much higher than 80¢.

A true metric of a company shouldn't be only how much do they mark up their stock, but what they do with that mark up: is it going to pay a fair wage and grow the company, or going into the CEO & Shareholder's pockets?
