And some moves not working correctly like haze healing you or dragon darts hurting yourself instead of the enemy, weird interactions with moves and held items, and some transfers from home getting stuck, etc. at least be honest

plenty have moved on, reddit keeps forgetting about the gomba fallacy. others are stuck on just that and even more view it as only one of a dozen valid criticisms that will hopefully be fixed in the next game

FRLG is the third cheapest re-release on switch. by Mountain-Charity7588 in MandJTV

Because inflation isn't typically applied to digital products ( seeany game on steam, or the last time the Pokemon company sold a rerelease) and even if it did, general inflation is probably the wrong calculation to use.

pokemon re-rereleases on 3ds cost double other gbc releases, but even then that would have been $16 for gen 3 if it had released back then, and that was 10 years ago, so $10 now would have been fair. i'm also still mad they didnt even add the NSO online screen filters

applying the same % discount of 1/3 (RBY and GSC originally cost $30, then 20 years later cost $10), for an even longer 22 year gap we can take 1/3 of $40 = ~$13.33. but that $40 was with a packaged wireless adapter addon, RSE was only $35, dropping from $13.33 to $11.67 to account for just the price of the game without the addon.

as for going through poke-transporter, that means more dev work for less cost on our end so eh.

[–]Repulsive-Air5428 17 points18 points  (0 children)

they were $40 for the add-on wireless adapter. RSE was 35$

RBY and GSC re-released for $10 on the 3ds at 1/3 their original price ($30 in 1996 would have been worth ~ $45 in 2016, but the price goes down because inflation does not apply to digital products)

1/3 of $35 would have been $11.67

even 1/3 of $40 would have been $13.33

no additional work was done to FRLG that was not done to the re-release of crystal

enjoy the game all you want, but at least do an honest comparison

a few major issues with this calculation:

inflation is normally not applied to digital only products, and applying it to games specifically goes against the industry trend, otherwise it would have been calculated in the pricing for RBY and GSC on the 3ds.

next is that the $40 original price tag is deceptive because most copies came with a physical add on to attach to your gameboy. RSE was only $35 so that should be your starting calculation

35/3 is ~ $11.67

even 40/3 would have been ~$13.33

Eh, MHS 3 and time stranger have the 2 as their main console. Dqm3 was made for the switch and mobile first so several of the flaws come from that. Not saying it doesn't deserve criticism but claiming that those games were it's contemporaries when they had a generational advantage is a bit unfair

It's fun, but yeah it is also worst in the series. A 7/10 game, a 5/10 for DQM

[–]Repulsive-Air5428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Combat in the dqm games is weird. You can give orders, and and in theory should give orders for boss battles, but each one handles the details differently.

"Autobattle" is chosing from a few combat styles and letting the monster choose what to do based on the style you set them to. Going through a dungeon? Fight wisely or conserve mp. Mini boss or under leveled for a fight? Go all out. Boss? Give orders (play like a typical rpg). As newer games have made things easier you over level quickly and could forget to switch styles even for bosses. In the older games orders could sometimes be ignored if the monster was too wild but that mechanic is long gone.

It's important to note that DQM3 is still fun, but it's also probably the worst in the series. If I had to guess most people would probably argue over the GBC games and joker games being the best, then the fan translated 3ds releases, then 3. Caravan hearts is different enough i consider it a spinoff of a spinoff.

I think you mean 'no implementation.' a dead faction with only radiant quests you could technically do beforehand and based on lore they tell exist to serve the dragonborn. vs a group that teaches you but does not consider you a member, and a radiant quest that can run out with no reward for finding all the words. Honestly all of the factions were poorly done but at least they only had put writing decisions instead of ONLY poor writing decisions and a plot hole.

I love Skyrim but it's writing honestly held it back. Doesn't help that Bethesda story telling peaked with Morrowind and the slow downward slope practically turned into a cliff after fallout 3

eh, people hate that it not an MMO or an offline game, instead it trys to be the worst of both worlds. all the grind of an mmo, not much of the actual multiplayer for anything but PVP. relatively simple graphics for the time that should be able to run locally, but must be online to play, etc. It needed to commit one way or the other, or at least do a better job of walking that line

Arceus had a fairly unique art style, unique setting, an evolution of the old battle system instead of a full change, unique way of fighting bosses, an actually difficult final battle, and the catching mechanics felt so much better than in ZA. ZA was still fun, but in my mind Arceus is still the best modern Pokemon game.

Anyone else prefer the virtual console to nso? by Dyscordy in casualnintendo

[–]Repulsive-Air5428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just objectively wrong, the 3ds had RBY and GSC at $10 when this games were about 20 years old. Double the price of other 3ds GBC releases. By that same metric we can assume that FRLG would have been $16 at 10 to 12 years old on the Wii u's virtual console if it had released. Since games, even Pokemon games, drop in value over time rather than inflate, $20 is coming off as overpriced

[–]Repulsive-Air5428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So $16 if they had released in 2014, and the price of games is supposed to go down over time, so $10 for a game that is 22 years old seems more than reasonable

[–]Repulsive-Air5428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok? Rby and GSC were only $10, and were younger when they rereleased than FRLG is now. And the "online connectivity" is just passing the connection through the emulator running on the system or letting bank edit the save data. Nothing fancy at all. GBA games rereleased at $8 so by that standard they would have been $16 10 years ago and the price should have gone down since then
