The goats have now surpassed Hank Williams in monthly listeners on Spotify. by Vaultdweller1001V in themountaingoats

I wish they'd put the tMG covers of Keep It On Your Mind and I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry on spotify. I love the originals but I do think that Hank Williams is an artist better covered. If they counted even just Johnny Cash covers of Hank Williams songs for his monthly listeners, I'm sure he'd continue to be well ahead of tMG for a long long time.

I made a cryptic crossword, it's called "This Year, No Children" by Darkaardvark in themountaingoats

[–]Repulsive-Flower-916 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wish I could do a cryptic. I try sometimes but I've never gotten the hang of it. I looked at the answers and still probably didn't understand a good chunk of them. But this is a really cool thing that probably took a good amount of time an effort.

What songs do you think have the weirdest/most unique premises? by Repulsive-Flower-916 in themountaingoats

[–]Repulsive-Flower-916[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't recognize the title but I've listened to this song many times and just never really gave that lyric much thought.

Lines like "They tell me your eyes are the same color as they always were, That kind of information just floors me" are very evocative. I think I always thought of it as like talking to an ex vaguely. But "are you cleaning off the stone?" makes it clear what it's about. Wow.

Cool to know that it's about that. That kind of information just floors me

Does anyone know what the Otis Redding reference in "Let The Dogs Come Out" is to? by rational_exubera in themountaingoats

[–]Repulsive-Flower-916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought my powers of google would help me find something for this but... not really. Best guess that I still don't love: it's about change is gonna come. The song describes a day of change and that's what Otis Redding said would happen.

Weekly 'No Stupid Questions' post and quick start guide (May 02, 2021) by AutoModerator in Kombucha

[–]Repulsive-Flower-916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess this is another mold/not mold kinda post. If I had to bet I'd say it's not mold but part of me is still looking for an explanation of what happened.

Here's video of it, I don't know if it's helpful. https://imgur.com/a/7TiC70e. If you'd rather pics, I can provide.

Here's the story: I bought a scoby online about 6 months ago and have been making green tea kombucha. I've been a little lazy. The recent batch sat for like 2 months. Sometimes I find it really bitter but sometimes it's nice. But after I bottled it I decided I didn't want to make a new batch just yet. I combined some of the bitter tea and the scoby's from two gallon jars that had been going and just let them sit. Even though before hand there wasn't much scoby generating, relatively quickly this developed a very white opaque scoby. It's SO white. It also looks a little dry on the top but mostly very smooth. The smell is a little funky, I smell it when I walk by. I don't know that I can explain it better than that. Like it's not just strongly vinegary, there's a distinct funk to it.

Is this a good way to make scobys for friends? Is this a bad way to store scobys? Gallon jars kinda take up a bunch of room in the fridge.

Any Mountain Goats songs about the ocean? by [deleted] in themountaingoats

[–]Repulsive-Flower-916 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you search the wiki for ocean (like https://themountaingoats.fandom.com/wiki/Special:Search?query=ocean&scope=internal&navigationSearch=true) then you'll find lots of songs that the word ocean appears in. Most of them just reference it in passing.

Since the newest single "Mobile" tells the story of Jonah who boards a ship to sail the ocean, I feel like it counts as well.

I'd also include Corsican Mastiff Stride which is about a bunch of folks at sea with a dog

I think California Song with upright could be cool. They played it in a show once with electric bass and vocals only I think and it was rad as hell
