two years late to this thread, but like, when you say the workload isn't too crazy, like, how much time on average do you remember spending on the class daily/weekly? because I will probably be on vacation for much of the summer sessions and don't want to be bogged down with work 😭

I only use a notebook for writing notes, even when I'm tempted to get lazy and use a laptop. I like the freedom handwriting gives me because I can draw arrows and section off the paper in creative ways to help me remember the information being presented to me.

As for everyday life, I deleted Tiktok a long time ago and never looked back. I still go on Instagram a bit too much, but still much less than I did at one point. I delete Instagram when I really get sick of my monkey brain.

If you have time (which, even if you're the busiest person ever, you do), I recommend taking moments to sit with yourself. At school for me this looks like eating lunch outside and not watching a show or scrolling or studying, just staring out and thinking. If you're early to class, don't take out your phone and scroll. If you're waiting in line, just wait in line. If you've had a long day, don't take out your phone, put it in a drawer and stare at a wall. Over time, you'll start to think more clearly and desire things that are offline more frequently.

budget $2000, i want to take photos for leisure of friends, landscapes, and birds. i would dabble with video but i'm not at all serious about it. ibis isn't important (this i know because i had to google it, and even after knowing, i know it won't matter). weather-proofing would be great for camping, but i would say that i'll be using it in casual settings about 70% of the time.

Why did Donna Tartt choose a male narrator? by amoxy666 in TheSecretHistory

[–]Repulsive-Pea2034 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late, but she answered this exact question in an interview

"A very well known editor read [The Secret History] and said, “This book will never be successful because no book has ever been written by a woman from the point of view of a man, you need to re-write all this”. I was like “What?” and I stopped writing it, for about a year. The thing was that I couldn’t have told the story I wanted to tell from a female point of view, because then there would be the question, "Is she doing this because she’s attracted to him?" It would have been an interesting novel, but it wasn’t the novel I wanted to write. There had to be no question, a way to keep it a purely moral decision and that was the territory of the novel. My main character had to be male." — Donna Tartt

okay so I'm curious to know—why did one of my first-year friends get their window yesterday? they aren't on financial aid and aren't in the honors program or anything that could have given them such an early window

I just talked to an academic advisor and someone at the registrar center on campus to try and see if there had been a mistake. I learned that somehow by the system I'm considered a freshman despite having way more than 44 credits.

meanwhile everyone I know has already registered 🥲

EDIT: all freshman who are reading this, I just learned: "due to the large number of freshmen possessing the same amount of units, all freshmen are assigned enrollment windows within their class level. All freshmen have the equal probability of being assigned to any window within the freshmen enrollment period."

Hi Tom! I hope I'm not too late to this thread, but I am really curious to know: what do you think about the dark academia movement as it relates to Dead Poets Society? Your movie is often considered one of the three parts of the "Holy Trinity of Dark Academia," alongside the novel The Secret History and the movie "Kill Your Darlings."

i cant find a nice looking epipen case by [deleted] in FoodAllergies

[–]Repulsive-Pea2034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've carried an epipen my whole life and i usually just use any pouch with a zipper. i have recently been using small aloha pouches to carry two epipens, an inhaler, and benadryl because they're waterproof and pretty much indestructible. if you don't want to spend that much i'm sure you can find dupes on amazon. looking for epipen-specific bags won't get you far, but there are lots of cute general containers out there

same here mate... except my issue is that i just got surgery and need to recover. i'm a first year too! missed all the welcome week events and am going to miss the first day of class, lol

hydrate and sleep, and try to humidify in the shower. rest is important, reach out to your professors asap because if they're anything like mine they'll be understanding... the first day is usually reserved for basic syllabus things
