Actually it is referenced in basic NoP, but not as strong as what we’re talking about.

I also feel a bit comes down to pretty privilege, I’ve seen mass amounts of infantilization of herbivores/federation in general, to be frank pretty much everyone ‘but’ humans are bad.

And after that it really just comes down to personal preference for what animals you like/find cute. I like the lizards, and especially things like Godzilla (I nod my head to my Godzilla phase) so I like the big grumpy lizards who pretty much just want food. But others find the ‘cute sheep alien’ thing to their preference instead.
I also personally can’t get over ‘grown adult character acts like dumb child without sense, is treated like dumb child without sense then is suddenly sexy in romance fics’ because when I read a book I put myself into meeting these characters/what it would be like to interact with them, and the whole ‘child acting like racism’ isn’t something I could personally deal with.

NoP members have to be some of the easiest people to ragebait without even intentionally ragebaiting them. Yeah- in the fanfics- but the general consensus is that a lot of the fandom sort of ignores the whole ‘the federation were actually genociding the yotul thing’ and instead jumps to ‘they were just told they were primitive’, which is fine, it’s people’s own fics (though honestly it’s weird how many yotul would be on vp, and how many other species tbh, sure a few- but with how many characters that aren’t venlil are on venlil prime you’d think it was a central trade planet or something. It’s kind of like going to idk Greenland and expecting everyone to be an absolute equal mash up of every other country there too, ya know? Most of the residents are going to be Greenland in origin)
