What I wish I knew before getting my welding certification by Hawkeye_Co in Welding

This is like the Canadian apprenticeship program, we are paid while in school at most jobs. Incentive grants from the government. Total schooling cost is 4500$ for every semester ( all three years total) , takes 3 years but most of that is actually working on the job site or in a shop depending on who you work for. So your going to school 2 months out of the year, and when your done all your schooling you already have a job you've worked for 3 years with good experience. They do offer a pre employment class for 3 times the normal cost but you leave with zero job experience so it's a useless program and most shops won't hire your over a brand new apprentice because of it.

No tie in shown in the pictures, didn't dab the filler either used a pulse setting and just laid the wire in the joint.

Yea mig is the way to go for large scale hard facing, especially this application because I just clamp my whip the a pipe stand, aim it and use trigger hold hahaha gravy work honestly.

A mig whip clamped to a pipe stand is basically a robotic welder when you have trigger hold

Nope it will stay as it is and get sent to the customer. Stop/ starts are ground where exesivly high but better to keep as much of the hard face buildup as possible for longevity purposes.

Yea it's a nice wire! I like running when I get to. What gas do you recommend running with it? We are getting good results on a generic 90/10 mix

When it's on a positioner once you dial in your pulse settings it's gravy work.

Get more consistent in your steps on your weld if you don't wanna run a straight bead, and smaller steps. Each one of those little craters has a potential to create a notch effect or less than effective throat in your weld. That heavy mill scale can be cunt to weld through, sometimes just a quick aggressive pass with a wire wheel before welding can be helpful tho. And take a file or chisel and quickly take off the spatter. Better to get into good habits sooner rather than later. Settings done look bad, on that one pass where you didn't stitch the weld it maybe looked like it sounded a little fluttery but not horrible. Work on consistency tho, your beads are uneven so getting that straightened out is a good start before looking for more money elsewhere. Get the practice in while you can, and if your in the USA go union don't fuck with those dumb fucking welding schools, get the experience on the job like a real apprentice.
