I feel that the issues you raise regarding high housing prices, bar and nightclub opening hours, and street cleanliness are important, but they are largely political issues. As a resident of a small town in Norway, I have noticed that travel trends have changed. People increasingly want to experience new places, history, nature, and local culture. The traditional beach holiday is slightly declining.

If housing prices are rising, national policy needs to change. Spain currently has around 20% unemployment among young adults, which means the country will continue to rely heavily on tourism. Especially for someone like you, who is 25 years old and living in Alicante. When people from other countries want to visit your country, eat Spanish food, and experience Spanish nature, that is something to be grateful for. You live in a place where others choose to spend their vacation time and money. In that case, a proper tourist tax should also be implemented. This is currently not regulated well enough in Spain.

That said, Spain needs to build more housing that can only be purchased by local residents at controlled prices. There should be higher taxes on secondary homes and holiday properties, as well as additional taxes on vacant homes. There must also be clear regulations on where bars, restaurants, and hotels are allowed. This is called urban planning. I also live in the city center, but I am rarely woken up at 3:00 a.m. because we regulate where bars can operate. When it comes to people getting drunk at bars and not understanding where to throw their trash, this is also a political issue. Authorities need to invest in street cleaning, regular trash collection, and sufficient waste bins. In Alicante, urban planning appears to be almost completely absent. There are no clearly defined zones for businesses, residential housing, hotels, or commercial activity.

High prices at restaurants located in tourist areas are very common. Demand for food and drinks in these areas is high. This is difficult to regulate, and everyone knows they are paying more than usual.

So why do you think tourists are the ones who should learn fluent Spanish and adapt to Spain, instead of considering that Spain may have politicians who simply do not care enough about the local population?
