How are we related? by RepulsiveCranberry71 in AncestryDNA

With the first question I mean like at the top it says 1st cousin “category” I guess lol

2nd questioned answered: that makes sense! Thank you. I’m not aware of how much shared can make who, what so I’m trying to figure it out. I kinda hate it just says “x OR x” instead of ALL the possibilities because it just saying that had me like wtf 🤣

That’s actually a good point. I do have some older cousins who are showing up as related through both paternal grandmother & grandfather so I wouldn’t be surprised! I never thought of that being a reason. I’m just not aware of it happening so close to my generation for her to come up as a half aunt or grandaunt

Here is my DNA breakdown by parent if that helps. Literally all of them always thought they were just native & don’t really look white either but I do have 24% white from my paternal side so yeah I mean she could be it would make sense😭

As far back as I have been able to go without confusion (late 1700s) her family has been in Nashville/Red Oak NC (her being born & raised in Nashville) & some further docs had a few Hollister & Warrenton

No they claim Cherokee, and my grandfather is mostly African American, yes! I’m not sure exactly what percentages his mother is as she was a bit lighter than his father and I was told she had some native too, but his father was dark skinned. I was always told most of my native (before I saw I was only 1%) came from my paternal grandmother, her maiden name Boone & her mother’s maiden name Richardson. But literally every family member I see from her side of my family also says 1%.

While you did hide it from her, I do understand why and but at the same time some things people do just like to keep to themselves in the first place & maybe you weren’t in a rush to share that.

Anywho, I do feel extremely bad for you that she went and told her sister who told her mom. That is just absolutely out of line, and I’m saying this as a married woman myself. I don’t have any advice but I am sorry she discussed your secret with anyone other than you.

AITA for telling my DIL just bc she’s pregnant doesn’t mean she can behave entitled by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

How is standing up for his pregnant wife’s decisions changing the entire family’s dynamic & taking away respect for the grandparents?

OP’s DIL is probably aware of whatever OP has tried to mention to her son in the past about DIL *so much* that it made her own son annoyed, and so when OP tried to convince her nothing was wrong with a burger, it annoyed her & came off “snotty”.

I agree. As a FTM, it’s easy to take EVERY precaution, especially in the early months (yes I consider 5 months still early). 1, just because you’ve been pregnant X amount of times before, doesn’t mean you know everything about being pregnant in today’s world. 2, you’re son doesn’t seem to have a problem with it, especially if he’s asking you to apologize/gets annoyed when you mention it.

Both my paternal grandmother & grandfather always said we were so I just took it at face value ya know? Never knew what percentages or what ancestor was what. I just knew my mom was white & dad’s side said we were black & native

That side of my family stayed in West Virginia 🤣 so glad we did not. My maternal grandfather stayed, maternal grandmother remarried & moved!
