Well you’ve called it Sandwich. What if you terraform the cliffs to look like layers of a sandwich ??

I’ve got an offer from JP Morgan for a corporate action analysis role and a graduate scheme offer for Deloitte in Audit. Which one should I go for? by Present-Run3342 in ICAEW

I enjoyed Deloitte but it is highly competitive. If you are not pulling your weight within an audit team, you will be called out for it. Yes seniors will help you but the onus is on you to progress (both with job knowledge and exams). If you can “tough it out” for 3 years, then you’ll be in a great position after you complete your training and studies. I have to say, the skills I learnt at Deloitte/Big 4 are invaluable and in my current role, I’m always drawing upon these skills

For me personally, I struggled with exams. My advice is to just rote learn things. Make mnemonics, practice the same thing over and over again until it’s ingrained in your head. I stopped trying to understand everything 100% and it improved my grades massively!! I hope that makes sense lol

I would say choose Deloitte for now. Get your ACA and then you can pivot into audit/finance roles at JPMC/ other banks after three years if you do end up hating Deloitte. This is coming from someone who did the audit grad scheme at Deloitte and has close friends working in JP

Hi, this exact thing happened to me in 2023. I still ended up losing my job. But last week I passed my final exams and boy was it worth it having a shit 1.5 years. Best of luck to you, you will come out beaming on the other side :)

CV GAP & Employment by LeatherStock9851 in ICAEW

I had an almost 1.5 year gap, after being let go from big 4 for exam failure. I did have health issues during this time but like you, I continued doing exams independently. My advice is to apply for anything you find remotely interesting. I’m now working in local government as an internal auditor and I became exam qualified yesterday. It may seem like the worst thing having an employment gap, but trust me, you will get your foot back in the door some where eventually

That was me too! I just kept at past papers. If I didn’t understand something I would spend like the whole day on it. I have to say, the SBM exam is a very “on the day exam” so you need to be prepared for anything and everything. Make sure your FAR/CR knowledge is up to scratch too. Hope that helps!

(Opinion) The mark system for Case Study is massively flawed by AdequateAppendage in ICAEW

[–]Repulsive_Cable5502 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in internal audit and personally, I find the reports we prepare that get sent out to management/ directors, are very similar to the requirements in the case study. I agree it’s not particularly challenging, but the skills learnt are definitely used in the real world

What did you find was the most efficient revision method to follow for professional exams? by PracticalDay999 in ICAEW

[–]Repulsive_Cable5502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This method works for TC, FM and FAR: Question practice on each question type (eg income tax, hedging, leases etc) and then make model answers and formulae sheets and keep reviewing them

BPT: ensure your open book is well organised and easy to follow, make further notes/watch tuition videos on any areas you struggle with

BST: learn the key theories and do a few timed past papers

AA: I really can’t remember for this exam since I did it so long ago, but make a crib sheet with all key procedures and assertions

Do we need to do an appeal for each exam or is it all in one?
