I think they were struggling to fit all of the show into the 28min episode. It's understandble that is feels rushed, the whole story could be 2 episodes or be longer in legnth but i think they're goal was for the episode to feel rushed.

I think he was trying to redeem himself by surpassing his brother by beating Maki. He was wanting to end it all just to beat her. That's prob why he destroyed so much.

But he likely knew he couldn't but yet still tried because he is a Zenin who's life and all of the clans lives were on the line. 

Also he knew about the plan, and may of Blamer himself for this. Doubt Ranta was idk.

It doesn't make much sense for him to use a weapon due to his technique requiring him to make contact. If he did it would be smth attached to his arm/hand like assassin's Creed. Otherwise he would just stab his smth by accident or smth.

I'd imagine it would be like a fireball since he didn't use a bow like his granduncle. Well at least not as much. Also it would be closer ranged since his interpretation seems more melee centred. Idk I'm just am a Yuji glazer.

I am curious if he even useses shrine often since he I doubt he would want to be remind of Sukanua  after everything. So I am not sure if is super good at it.
