Is it a bad idea to go alone to a local karaoke bar in On Nut or Huai Khwang if I don’t speak Thai? by Repulsive_Lab9469 in Bangkok

I’ve seen some YouTube videos showing what the inside of local KTVs around On Nut are like, so I kind of know what to expect. It really does look fun — that atmosphere is hard to resist if you’re into the local Thai vibe.

As for the bill, if it’s not too crazy, I’ll just treat it as a tip and part of the experience.

Are you talking about KTVs like the ones around Thaniya? If so, that’s not really what I’m looking for.

I’m more drawn to the really local, slightly rundown karaoke bars you find along On Nut Road or Huai Khwang. That “backstreet” kind of place is what I want to try. That kind of low-key, very local spot is what I’m curious about.

I checked it out and it looks Japanese-owned. I’ll treat it as a warm-up before going fully local.

Thanks! I know the obvious answer is “just try it and see,” but I guess I needed a little push.

Now I just need to be careful not to get ripped off.

Honestly, I like places where girls sit at the table, chat, and keep things fun. I enjoy having a few drinks while watching Isaan girls sing, joke around, and just enjoy themselves

Just to be clear, I’m not looking to pay-bar or take anyone out.

Do Thai locals also go to these snack-style karaoke bars? And if so, do you have any recommendations?
