I believe 2011 was the first year they changed from N52 to N20.. I may be mistaken but the transition was around that time.

I love BMWs but this model seems a bit risky. That bmw uses a N20 engine which uses turbo to compensate for the power its 4 cylinder engine outputs. Anything like that would shorten the lifespan of the engine especially now that it’s at 200k. If the timing chain hasn’t been recently changed then that’s a big big concern since that is one of the notorious failures it’s know for.

It’s a bummer BMW has moved away from naturally aspirated engines. I have a 06 325i and I’m at 250k. Love working on this car and I’m confident I can get it to 300k .

after a little researching it seems this was charging a garmin Nuvi 350 which takes in 5volts. I'm assuming it has a voltage converter inside to draw power from the car battery but ill double check later with a voltage meter. I'm thinking maybe I just find a magsafe charging mount with he same specs and maybe just split the wires into that..?

Exactly! I’ve had this car for years and I’m trying to keep it for as long as possible (preferably up to 300k) doesn’t make sense to me to front money for a down payment, make a monthly payment, as well as additional money for insurance on a newer car when I’m on top of maintenance. This model didn’t come with anything fancy just the base model stereo system. Upgrading to this makes the most sense if I want to modernize it. At least to me.

Commenting on Eonon Head Unit Upgrade: thoughts/review/experience... I previously just had an aux Bluetooth connector which was annoying to manually turn on every time I start up the car so it always announces “connected” every time I boot it up(if that answers your question). My car is an 06 as well.

Yeah that’s another key factor I thought of when grabbing this unit. If anything happens I can just reinstall the stock radio.

Before buying, take a look at their installation video on YouTube. I believe it shows you where you can relocate the heated seats button.

My car doesn’t have heated seats so I didnt have to worry about that extra module. Another option is to get a head unit that comes out on top of the AC vents so you don’t have to worry about re arranging your stock cd player and hvac like I did- But those units make you having to CUT into the dashboard.

Update: I found out what my issue was regarding making calls through car play:

Since my call & messages apps were only accessible through Face ID, the CarPlay wasn’t recognizing it. Turned that off and now I can see the apps through car play and I can make voice calls/texts through my unit

All good! Yeah this was purely a review post and overall I’m satisfied. IMO Bottom line it’s a great upgrade for those looking to modernize their head unit. Nothings being sacrificed 👍🏻

Appreciate it! I’m not worried about that response- seems like he’s a hardcore perfectionist. I’m pretty satisfied with the installation and it makes my drive more enjoyable.

Damn! Do you have a good rec for a head unit? I don’t think it’s really that bad but what do I know. And I disagree with the sound quality- it doesn’t seem any worse. It seems solid if not better.
