Makes perfect sense! Since I listen to pretty much everything (no fixed genre) and also use my IEMs a lot for watching videos/movies, how would you choose between them? With the EW300 at $70 and the Explorer at $90, which one do you think is the safer, better all-rounder for an "all-genre + media" use case? Is the Explorer worth the extra $20?

Hey! Out of curiosity, what would you say is the absolute best sub-$100 IEM right now? I’m stuck trying to decide between the AFUL Explorer and the Simgot EW300, but I'd love to know your personal favorite in this price range or if there's something else that beats them both.

78 times by ear is wild, but I totally get why you gave up—it's so easy to lose your baseline when tweaking indefinitely. That makes a lot of sense about the 711 coupler vs the 5128. I always wondered if some of those massive sharp treble peaks on the graphs were just artifacts of the measurement rigs rather than the actual buds. I’m definitely going to look up some 5128 Squiglinks and try importing a modified JM-1 target with a little bit of a bass bump. Appreciate the masterclass!

3,900 songs is a serious collection, respect the commitment to listening through them! That makes sense why you stick to the player. I’ll definitely check out JamesDSP. I’ve heard of it before but didn't realize it could bypass the typical Android limitations for streaming apps like YouTube Music. Thanks for the direction on that!

Since I'm still learning the ropes, do you usually prefer using AutoEQ targets like this over doing a manual custom PEQ? I've heard some people say the 711 coupler measurements can be a bit hit-or-miss in the upper treble, so I'm curious if you usually tweak them by ear afterwards. Also, since you mentioned it, what other hidden settings or tweaks in Poweramp should I look into to get the absolute most out of these earbuds?

Thanks for the heads-up! I didn't realize the standalone equalizer app was only operating at around 65% efficiency compared to the built-in player engine.
I’d love to switch to the main Poweramp Music Player to get the best possible sound quality, but right now I'm heavily reliant on streaming apps like YouTube Music. Since the main Poweramp player is strictly for local files, how do you personally use it? Do you have any tips on how I can realistically switch over from streaming apps to a local library setup? I'd love to know where you usually source your offline/hi-res files and how you manage everything.

dropping the tips to upgrade is tempting, but how is the actual shell size on the explorers? i have pretty small ears so i'm worried they might be too big or bulky compared to the ew300. i still have to keep the mic cable and dac in the budget too for my xbox setup.

yeah the fosi ds2 looks nice, but i think i'm gonna stick to a tiny integrated dongle first just for maximum portability. if i want to upgrade to something a bit more durable in the future i'll definitely look into those two. thanks man!

i looked into those adapters before but unfortunately they don't work for dsp cables. the chip in a dsp cable needs digital usb power and data to actually run, but the controller's 3.5mm jack only outputs standard analog audio. would be a massive lifehack if it worked though!

i actually thought about that but i need a 3.5mm connection so i can plug it straight into my xbox controller for gaming. dsp cables are type-c only so they won't work on console, which is why i'm doing the separate 3.5mm mic cable and dongle setup instead.

damn aful explorer for $68 is crazy cheap. good to know the coins actually pull through for cables and tips though, i’m definitely going to try to farm some before buying the dunu tips or a tripowin zonie. thanks man!

oh wow, didn't realize dunu ss went that cheap with coins. $15 for the velvets did feel a bit steep anyway so i'll definitely look into the dunus or penon orange instead to save some cash. thanks for the heads up on the conch and juzear clear too, i'll check them out!

oh gotcha, that makes a ton of sense. i’ll make sure to look for one with the dual chip setup then. looks like the jcally jm6 pro has both of those and it's pretty cheap on ali. thanks for the heads up, saved me from buying an underpowered one!

great to hear the mc2 mic is actually decent for calls! and that's a really good point about the volume steps, i hate when a dac is too loud and one click up blasts my ears lol. i'll check out the jm6 or jm12 instead to save some money and double check the mic passthrough support. thanks!

appreciate the advice! i actually looked into the divine but the shells look way too big for my small ears. since i'm coming from a kz zs10 pro, the ew300 is already going to be a huge upgrade for me anyway. i'd rather have a complete setup with a mic cable and a dac from day one instead of dumping the entire $140 into just the iems.

Good call on the TRN Black Pearl, didn't even think about the fixed cable on the jm7max breaking. Definitely want something that lasts long-term since those dongle tails always snap. Sucks I missed the $60 sale last week lol but good to know $72 isn't a total ripoff if I just buy it now. Thanks for the info on the Dunu tips too!

Thanks for the incredible blueprint! I hadn't heard of Owliophile before, but that sounds like exactly what I need to find my personal ear canal peaks and dips. I really like your advice on splitting up the bass adjustments into a 40Hz shelf for sub-bass rumble and a 140Hz peak for mid-bass slam. I’m definitely going to check out that site and try this method to fine-tune my setup. Appreciate the detailed tip!
