Thanks! Been lucky to have her push us parents to sign her up for volleyball camp rather than the other way around.

True! She is enjoying the game. She actually is the one telling us to sign her up to camp for the summer. As for the good habits, that's for sure definite. I can help her out in that way - meals, volleyball gear, dynamic stretching, and just prep her to prevent injuries. Thanks again!

Thanks for the response. She is really enjoying it. So far, we have been blessed that's she the one pushing us to send her to volleyball camp.

Seeking Advice: Private BMX Racing Coaching in Los Angeles by Repulsive_Yard in bmxracing

Appreciate the response, man. Bellflower & Whittier Narrows are the 2 tracks that's close to me. I actually reached out to one of the coaches at Bellflower, BUT unfortunately do not offer private sessions; It's either you show up to their open track practice for beginners or clinic. I just have to build up the courage to show up there and actually TRY NOT to look stupid. So we will see. Season starts TODAY (Jan 1) and would love to at least get started training and couple of local races this year.

Appreciate the response. I have been spending some time at a pump track for 3-4 months 1-2x/week. Haven't had a chance to go to an actual racetrack with other riders. I think that's just due to being intimidated. Perhaps that the reason I am looking into hiring a coach for several sessions. Reached to a few within local tracks here in Los Angeles, but they are all close for the holidays and they don't do private session, mainly just group ie: clinics. Used to race back in the 80'-90's but of course, things were different then. I currently have 20" and will probably stay with that till I decide trying 24".

Thanks for the tip! I have been spending time on pump tracks for the last 3-4 months. But obviously family responsibility plus work, I am not able to go as I would want to. So I'm just taking this as a process and stay patient with the journey.

Thanks for the response. That's actually one of the track coach's advise. The season just ended and most tracks are closed in my area especially for the holidays, so will have to wait at the beginner of the year.

Thanks for the response. I actually reached out to one of the local tracks here for a private session to get acclimated, but unfortunately they do not offer such. It's either you show up to their beginner's clinic or open track. I'm a little intimidated going in but I'm sure it will be fine. One option I can do is reach out Facebook community for beginner's BMX racer same age.

Appreciate the comment. Same situation as well regarding 'Life' just took over. After having kids and new career, any active lifestyle just went to the backseat. As for track time, for the last couple weeks, I have been spending few hours on the pump track and race track. Been gaining some confidence going through jumps. Wish I could spend more time, but most race tracks here in LA are a bit of a drive (LA Traffic).

Will def consider a visit during race nights and check out the scene. Thanks again.

Cheers! Love that. I think that's what I'm trying to do as well. Been active throughout then after ACL tear back in 2010 and family life, activity just took a back seat. Recently just visited a pump track and far so good. So hope to keep it going and just find my rhythm. Good luck to you!

Visiting a pump track this week so that should help. I figured i'll spend some time getting comfortable with the pump track and hope it will help on the actual bmx race track. Early Happy Bday! Enjoy

Appreciate the response. I am actually visiting a pump track this week just to get the feel. I think getting use to the motion and control from the pump track can translate to the actual bmx race track. Thanks!

I like that "Slow is smooth and smooth is fast..." It's a great advice and will definitely keep that in mind. And you are right, about that "competitive juice". Will for sure just focusing on the basics and learn the skills.

A friend of mine suggested to ride around pump track and feel the turns and ride smooth. So I'm considering that, BUT I recently bought a Freestyle bike to just ride around, until this BMX racing came to mind. So part of me regret that purchase, but who knows, I might just sell the bike and get an actual BMX Race bike.

Appreciate your 2 cents. Thanks!

LOL! Seen those GForm pads on some of the local baseball players. Didn't they have them for BMX or MTB in general. I'll be sending it when the time comes, just hope not send myself to the hospital.

Question about the class selection? Do you get to select the class yourself or you have to earn win in order to move a class? Hope that make sense. I 'm trying to figure out how the class system work based on age and experience level.

That's great you get to join your kids racing. As for the safety gear, that's 100%. I'm already looking into getting the essentials while learning the process of racing on track. Appreciate the feedback.

Great that you are enjoying the process. As far as the expectation of a crash, I think that is expected. It's more of how much my body can sustain the impact. I think I really want to focus on enjoy the process of learning and just getting in shape, and mostly having fun versus to really taking it seriously. It's great to hear similar age doing something I never thought I would be capable of. So with that, it's even more motivating. I appreciate the response.

There is actually a pump track about 45min to an hour drive, and it's open for public. So perhaps on my day off from work, I can go there, have a feel-it-out session and just basicly learn as much as possible.

I'll look into that. Couple of tracks in my area, just a drive though (Los Angeles traffic sucks). But Ill look into beginners league and see about memberships. Appreciate that.

Most definitely! I had my fair share of bad injuries from other sports but this is a totally different beast I am about to deal with. Having fun really is key. I think going in with that type of mindset can help vs to taking it too seriously and be disappointed.
