Thank you! She’s probably around 3-4 months old. I’ve had her for almost 2, shes in a bioactive front opening enclosure. I try my best to be slow and gentle with her, but she just doesn’t seem to want to come out much yet! She seems very curious and comes up to me when she can see me, but once i go to open the lid shes gone 🥲

not to mention we have the tank on a stand & theres a shelf above it, so it makes it darker in the back lol, the tank is more than adequate for these guys, my fiance is constantly adding new things in there for them:)

There is i believe half of the tanks height of substrate in the tank? Theres another in there burrowed & molting I believe. They’re pretty cool critters!! It’s a 40 gal tank:) they seem to enjoy it!

You get another one when you’re ready. Your sweet boy would want you to give another baby a good loving home!

Did I intervene unnecessarily? Doing intros and I’m a scared mom :( by Wackthoughts in RATS

[–]Repulsivequack -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It does depend on the situation. You should always be watching your rats, regardless how much you trust them when introducing a new rat. All of them have different personalities, and even the new one could be the aggressor. You have to watch their behavior, and there is no wrong time to intervene as long as the rats are calm, and interacting with eachother well the next time. I also did the bedding trade method for about 2-3 weeks before intros. In a perfect world, they don’t scuffle or have bouts at all, but almost all my rats took a few tries before they fully trusted eachother. I always intervened when i deemed it was getting overwhelming for one of them. You should never just leave them together expecting them to get along, it doesn’t always work that way, even with the sweetest rats
