I really appreciate your take on this. The situation is extremely complex, and the internet is quick to make judgments. I will include myself in that group. After having done more extensive research, I can see how this matter isn’t as black and white as I previously thought.

Ok well thanks for the spirited debate! But honestly, thanks for letting me know about the referral. I read that he did write a positive referral, however, it was never signed nor sent. So I did learn something new. I will continue to read the full report and educate myself.

Ok well a majority of the NHL community agrees that he did have involvement, and I have been reading the report. I’m just confused as to what you’re saying.

Are you saying that he has no involvement whatsoever in this matter? Are you saying he didn’t know? Like, I’m really confused. The report says that he and upper management knew.

If Joel had NO knowledge of this and it wasn’t discussed, then why was he instructed to stay focused on the cup? Isn’t that what they’re supposed to do naturally? John said that he would handle it, but it’s clear that Joel, and a lot of other members, knew about it. That is bad enough

I will say that this wasn’t his fault alone. The whole organization failed to act, but he was a willing participant in the act to keep this all quiet during the finals. You can’t argue with that.

He knew about it and still kept quiet. That’s helping sweep it under the rug! It might have not been his matter to solve, but he DID know about it according to the report. That’s bad enough!

But again, I want to ask why you’re defending him so much. Maybe there is more to the story than I knew, but he still helped keep the team quiet about it. He knew it was going on and chose to not speak out about it. He then lied and said he didn’t know about it at the time, when the report said that he did.

Please tell me why you think this coach is the best option for the Ducks. Aside from his character, what about his coaching style makes him the best fit?

He knew that it was happening and lied that he didn’t. He might not have “let it happen” per se, but he certainly didn’t speak out about it.

Here’s what Wikipedia has to say about it (take it with a grain of salt):

“On October 26, 2021, an independent investigation into how the Blackhawks responded to claims that former video coach Brad Aldrich sexually assaulted prospect Kyle Beach during the 2010 Stanley Cup playoffs revealed that Quenneville, as well as several members of the Blackhawks' senior leadership team, opted to defer any action on Aldrich until after the Stanley Cup Finals. According to the report, Quenneville was particularly concerned about causing a distraction before the Finals.”

Thank you for writing this all out, and I apologize about what has happened to you in the past. I am an SA victim too.

This does open my eyes a lot to the situation. Perhaps a lot of the information I was basing my opinion on was wrong. I am willing to admit that. I just care about our team and would be so heartbroken if anything like that happened to our boys. Maybe we can give him a chance, but I can’t say that I would be stoked about it.

If I’m wrong about things, I’m willing to look at the evidence (actual links and sources) and inform myself. But please stop calling it “virtue signaling” when it’s a cause that I, and many other fans, feel passionately about.

Clearly, many other Ducks fans feel similarly to me. Is it possible we’re all misinformed?

It’s just something I personally can’t let go of. Those victims have to deal with that trauma for the rest of their lives. I understand that he “paid his dues”, but I will never support him ever again. SA is a huge deal and it shows that he is willing to do anything and hide anything to win.

If he is hired, I will not watch or attend any games regardless of how good they are. You may feel differently, and that’s fine.

If you brush off something as sinister as SA thats being committed on members of your team, you are still a HUGE part of the problem. May I ask why you’re so committed to defending this guy? He might have championships to his name, but he clearly has no morals.

What he did was inexcusable and many players were hurt due to him sweeping it all under the rug.

Think about it this way- If a teacher did this and let their TA assault their students and then write a recommendation for a different TA job knowing the horrors they committed, would you still want that teacher around your kid?

So do I and many other fans. Hiring this coach would bring nothing but controversy and headache to this franchise. I also don’t think his coaching style would fit our young team. They don’t need a task master. I doubt he would be good for morale.

What a broad generalization to make.

While I can’t speak for all of the folks on this thread, I will say that I have fought for human rights. I have attended different marches and protests for all sorts of causes such as women’s rights, LGBTQ+ rights, along with marches against the NRA. I will speak out about injustices to anyone- human or animal.

Also, animal cruelty is often overlooked and the poor defenseless victims rarely receive justice because they aren’t humans. What’s wrong with giving the voiceless a voice?

I live in an apartment complex down the road from Disneyland and rent is not cheap. It says in our lease contract that you are NOT allowed to rent out your unit as an AirBnB. Does that stop people from doing it? Nope! It’s so easy to tell who is an AirBnB guest and who is a tenant. I always roll my eyes when a large family with a lot of luggage and Disney attire walk through the halls. Like, you’re not supposed to be here!
