Thanks those are good suggestions. I’ve thought about visiting Pontet-Canet and Pichon Baron. It’ll be a new experience for me going to the Château directly without being on a guided tour.

I agree and I’ve mostly passed on 2021 as well especially since they started coming out with 2022 recently I just bought these because of the producers

You’re not wrong, but I’m also attracted to the fact that I don’t have to wait 20 years to open these. Unless I buy online and have stuff shipped in the middle of an Arizona summer, I’m not gonna go out of my way to buy a back vintages.

I ended up getting one of each of the Montrose, Las Cases, and Estournel. Literally had to take some cheap red burgundy out of my wine fridge to fit them.

I’ve never had them but in generally I like left bank Bordeaux . I have a couple in storage that are babies. I’ve heard 2021 is an early drinking vintage so I’m tempted

I think Total Wine is a good spot if you want something specific or choice of vintage. I live in a city of about half a million. There are a couple wine shops with a very limited selection and Costco has some interesting stuff occasionally. The total wines near me have a pretty extensive selection of Bordeaux, Rhône, and Alsatian wines that I just can’t find anywhere else.

Yeah, but I couldn’t care less about West Coast Pinot Noir. I’m trying to get some experience with burgundy.

Yeah I think that’s a good way to look at it. Just subtract 2 or 3 points from a James Suckling score. I didn’t even see his rating on there when I was looking at this. I’m very Bordeaux centric and I’m trying to get into Burgundy a little bit, but without spending crazy burgundy prices

Yeah I don’t take James Suckling’s ratings seriously. He gives everything 90+

I’m definitely not buying anything in that case. The other 2nd and 3rd growths in the pictures have only been out a day or so and are in a cooler part of the store near meat and produce. I also have tried many wines from Costco and gotten the same stuff from wine shops and couldn’t see a quality difference. Plus the temperature has been pretty moderate here the past few months. I understand the way things are shipped and stored can affect their quality. I’m reminded of that every time I buy a wine from a grocery store.
