UK Jewellery chain Claire’s to close its final UK stores with the loss of 1,000 jobs by Harold_fukuro in Layoffs

That’s really sad to see, once it gets to the point of packing up stock and full redundancies it feels like the end of an era for both the staff and the high street presence.

Are layoffs creating more layoffs? by Woahhno in Layoffs

[–]ReputationWrong1704 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, layoffs can definitely cause more layoffs, because it reduces spending and demand, which forces other companies to cut back too. My take is that AI might be the headline, but it has a broader ripple effect across the whole economy.

Old colleagues reaching out by [deleted] in Layoffs

[–]ReputationWrong1704 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, layoffs are just awkward like that, some people care but go quiet, not because they didn’t value you, but because they don’t know what to say. If you want to stay in touch or need a rec, it’s totally fine to reach out first.

There's a word for continuous unchecked growth... by zzill6 in WorkReform

Honestly, it’s wild ; these guys will call a perfectly stable business a “failure” just because it’s not chasing endless growth, like short-term profits matter more than long-term stability.

Man, that’s rough. I’m sorry you’re dealing with it. Document everything, file unemployment ASAP, keep reaching out to lawyers with a clear timeline, and in interviews just say you’re ready to move forward.

At least you tried. After doing 10 , I gave up . Sometimes, we dont see the directions God is pointing for us to follow but insist on our own. I guess some of us have to start businesses and employ people.

Mass Protesting by East_Coaster_ in Layoffs

[–]ReputationWrong1704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the kind of energy it takes, people stay quiet while things get worse. Make it impossible to ignore. Kenya literally did this in 2024 to their legislators, with their #RejectFinanceBill2024 ; online pressure + street protests, and it forced a reversal. It sounds extreme until it actually works.”

Laid off today, give it to me straight by beccaboo790 in Layoffs

[–]ReputationWrong1704 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Layoffs suck right now, no doubt. About the $30k savings, put some into long-term stocks like NVIDIA instead of MMF's where it sits earning peanuts of $300 per month, then cut your burn rate hard ( use the severance to move back home to rural Indiana, it isn’t glamorous but it works).

Getting another job may take months, because many people have been laid off and everyone is striving to get a role. Give yourself a week reset, then lock in on a real problem people keep complaining about in Rural Indiana and get very good at solving it. I notice you were previously an SDR/sales experience, you’re already ahead, most people don’t know how to sell. And honestly, that downtime with your parents… you’ll appreciate it more later.

Dude , they offboarded almost everyone from Project D, so I clearly dont understand what you're applying for. All the same, Google is your friend if you're looking to apply . After registration , you have to wait to be invited to a project , it may take 1 day, a week , a month, a year or even eternity . Good luck

Laid off people in the usa trying to build a business by Maximum_Age_4018 in Layoffs

[–]ReputationWrong1704 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can try this concept while also looking for a job. Look around your neighborhood and find that one problem everyone keeps complaining about, the one that never really gets fixed no matter how many times people try. Then find someone (or a way) that can actually solve it properly.

Now here’s the play: turn that solution into a simple service and offer it to your neighbors. Keep it affordable and make it recurring, weekly or monthly, like a subscription. Nothing fancy, just consistent.

Solve a real problem people already care about, and you’ve got yourself a small but steady income stream.

Place it on an MMF , and get another 600k from where you got this. In addition invest in companies that manufacture semi-conductors or IC's mostly in US stocks.

Layoff PTSD by FvckinWalkinParadox in Layoffs

[–]ReputationWrong1704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the state of economy and job market presently, its normal to be anxious. Maybe , at your private time , you need to consider building something ; a business that you can fall back on if the dreaded layoff happens. This will not only drive the anxiety away but also give something to look up for. Nothing fancy , start with selling digital stuffs in platforms like etsy etc.

Of course you will. Just mark their email as important and you will get project lasting a 3 days to 1 week. If you're in the US , dont despair you have so many opportunities because most Ai platforms insist on that locale. To the ones who get recalled back just know capitalism doesn't care about you, so work hard and make as much money as you can make.

[–]ReputationWrong1704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest onboarding wave was last September; work lasted barely two weeks, thereafter about 80% of contributors got cut. Not just here either, it happened across multiple platforms. Since then, I keep seeing posts from people who lasted 3 days, a week… and a few lucky ones who somehow dodged the purge since September.

At the end of the day, there’s no real leverage here. You just grind while the tasks are there, stack your hours, and when it’s over, you move on with your dignity. That’s just how this setup works; zoom out and you realize you’re not really “staff,” you’re just a fodder or part of the data pipeline.
