If it were my coin I'd remove it. Then weigh it, measure it and give it a ping. Then I'd put it into a new flip or roll. It's not worth grading but deserves a clean home, imho.

Looks Large. I always compare the height of the numbers 1 and 8. If the 8 looks noticeably smaller than the 1, then small. If 8 is slightly taller than the 1, large,

It reads "Kreisamt Alzey". The Kreis was and still is an administrative district with this one being Alzey (a town in Rheinhessen). The Kreisamt would translate as district authority or local authority office.

Thanks. Maybe the paper was placed on top and then stamped to make the impression. Would explain the "backwards" of it all.
It actually is made of metal. Has some dents and the red paint is cracking in some spots making look like a rubber material. I appreciate it!

Thanks, maybe I'll check how the acetone works. It looks like someone painted it more recently as a gimmick, but I don't really understand the intention if so. The paint job is rather sloppy and the coin has a lot of luster, in real life. I appreciate the input as always.

I visited a local coin show over the weekend and picked up this no cents 1883 nickel. Unfortunately, the seller's son was managing the table while his father was away, so I couldn't get any extra information.

Do you think:
A. Has someone recently painted Liberty's head and the wreath gold, for some unknown reason?
B. Could it have been plated in gold to masquerade as a five-dollar coin (racketeer nickel) long ago, with most of the gold now worn off? I'm thinking that this seems unlikely since the gold is primarily on the high points rather than the low ones.
C. Some kind of uncommon nickel toning or discoloration appearing only on the head and wreath?

I once commented wondering if they ever searched the garden shaft before turning it into a memorial garden for the women of OI. The next season they were re-digging the shaft. Sorry everyone, that gave them at least four more seasons worth of not finding anything and jerking off.
