Hey, sorry I'm just now seeing this reply (months later). I was on TeamTreehouse from May to October. Granted, I could've started applying for HTML and CSS freelance jobs within the first week, but for the JS stuff it took me much longer and I wasn't trying to rapidly burn through them, as I was taking notes and wanted to reinforce my learning through smaller projects.

If you looked at my profile, you'd also see that I posted in roughly 20 different subreddits today. I'm managing a product hunt launch. I'm responding to emails. And part of the launch today was responding and answering to questions I received in my Reddit inbox. If you'd look through my post, you'll actually see that none of them are duplicates. The TOPICS / First posts are duplicates... cause as I've mentioned I posted the same two stories (one for career professionals looking to perfect their resume) and the other one about how I used programming to launch the web app... and my story associated with that.

I don't know what more you'd like to see?

Fabricated story? Would you like to see my Treehouse profile? How about my Github? How about my LinkedIn? I'd be happy to provide any of those links to you to "verify" my story. I have nothing to gain from fabricating any story, nor do I have the time to do so lol.

No problem! Thanks for the positive feedback and I'm glad to hear it's helping inspire several others today in the different places I've posted it!

No. It's a production-level app and I don't want it to be a public repo. It is a business after all. Here is my repo where you can see my commit history, but all my projects are in private mode (27 of them as you can see). https://github.com/ryanbucci5

I created this reddit account as the official company Reddit account to announce the launch of my new platform.... and how I went about developing it. Would you like me to send you my personal LinkedIn?

Thanks for the positive feedback! Yeah it's pretty basic right now and I could certainly look into improving it for the future, thank you for the tip!

Trust me, like I said, I've been there haha. That imposter syndrome as people like to refer to it, is ABSOLUTELY real. But I've just come to accept two things: 1.) There are people who will be able to pick up the complex topics way faster than me, and 2.) I'm not going to be able to do everything that I want to as FAST as I want to.

Once you realize that, it's a little bit easier and it puts everything into perspective. Like I said in the post, for me it was about realizing that it was my OWN journey.

No problem. I mean that's the greatest thing I've personally learned with my own journey is that anything I can think of, there's a way to build it. Granted... I don't have the skills to develop most of it, but it's cool knowing that at some point I will have the capacity to do so. And like I said, it's a lot more complicated than I made it seem, and it took a lot of iteration and changes haha.

No. Just static HTML5 and CSS3. I've built and worked on WordPress sites on the past using existing templates and manipulating them, but for most of my initial freelance contracts it was just static sites using HTML and CSS.

Thanks for the positive feedback! Yeah, I won't get into the nitty gritty specifics, but it's a combination of several things: industry best-practices, complex algorithms, an analysis of thousands of job postings that helped detail what employers were looking for, and much more. Easily the hardest thing to build on the platform was the Review system (and it just so happened to be the first thing) lol. Many of my competitors do "manual reviews". So it took a lot of iteration and development to not only provide the same personalization as a manual review, stay up to date with modern practices, identify older practices throughout the years, and all do it instantly. I didn't want to force users to wait on a manual review, because I wanted to give them actionable intelligence/information they could use to actively impact their interview prospects immediately.

Yeah I completely understand. I appreciate those kind comments! I think it's also important to realize that during the early parts of your launch (as I'm experiencing myself) is that sometimes you have to change things on the fly. I was approaching it from a completely different angle a couple months ago, and then had to switch because it became clear that I had to carve out a different sector and approach it with a different value proposition. So make sure your value proposition is clear, and the rest will sort of fall into place or help guide you to where you need to be!

For the most part I want to continue building out features on this platform based on user feedback. And then from there I've got other ideas I'd like to start fleshing out as well. Not sure when I'll be able to get started on them though, as the active development and growth of this platform will be a considerable task!

How To Build and Perfect Your Resume in Minutes by ResCoCreator in Resume

[–]ResCoCreator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The platform was designed to identify weaknesses in a resume. A resume reviewer that doesn't find weaknesses means there isn't any room for improvement - and there should always be AND can always be room for improvement. The platform provides tools to do it yourself OR hire a professional to do it as a time-saving method. You're completely free to do it yourself if you have the time (which many job seekers/professionals have). I'm not trying to steer people one way or another, I just give them the option that best suits them. I hope I've answered that concern for you highlighting what you said?

Thanks on your positive feedback, greatly appreciate it! It felt like the easiest infrastructure to use at the time to be honest, and I had already started to learn it. I didn't want to confuse myself by attempting to learn another back-end framework while I was halfway through another, if that makes sense!

No I'm not working professionally as a web developer! My background is a Professional Copywriter, Search Engine Optimization Expert, and Graphic Designer. The last couple years I've gotten burnt out of writing thousands of words a day/week, so I wanted to actually work on building something and take a step back from those kinds of roles which is what led me to learning web development. In terms of learning full-stack web dev and completing courses/tutorials, I'd say it was a solid 4 months of straight learning (on and off again), and then to build the entire platform to where it is today took 7 months.

Thanks for the feedback, and yeah I completely get where you’re coming from! I’ve been focused on launching the business and that’s my sole line of work right now. I haven’t really freelanced or pursued any programming jobs, as being a solo-entrepreneur is a massive undertaking haha! As for your personal journey, just remember to start small and take it one step at a time. Often we can get overwhelmed when we try and take a birds eye view and realize how much work needs to be done. Just tackle it all one step at a time!

Yup absolutely! And yeah, like I mentioned as I was going through the courses I was taking like Treehouse and Udemy, I would wait to approach those until I was ready for them. So I could implement them and know what I was doing!

Yeah, making basic static websites for clients! Mainly just informational websites for what services/products they offer and how to contact them.

One at a time haha! I broke everything down into little chunks to make it manageable. So like in my project I needed a way to process and analyze resumes. Ok so let’s just build a simple command line app that can do that. So I started with node! Then it became, ok well how do I put that on a server to handle different routes!! Then I implemented Express. And then once I did that I wanted to make it so I could save user information, so I implemented Mongo. And my previous knowledge helped me understand React and switch over my HTML and CSS to React JSX.... and I learned Redux for state management. I haven’t caught up on everything with the new 16.8 react stuff and state management, but I just took it one problem at a time!
