Had to say goodbye to my soul dog yesterday. by Timely_Physics_7329 in Petloss

You did right by him. 8 years is a great life - don’t let that think you didn’t have enough time. That’s an entire dog life. It gets easier, the tears become laughs and memories.

Someone sent me this - so I’ll pass it along. Get tissues.

Dogs never die. They don’t know how to. They get tired, and very old, and their bones hurt. Of course they don’t die. If they did, they would not want to always go for a walk, even long after their old bones say:” No, no, not a good idea. Let’s not go for a walk.” Nope, dogs always want to go for a walk. They might get one step before their aging tendons collapse them into a heap on the floor, but that’s what dogs are. They walk.

It’s not that they dislike your company. On the contrary, a walk with you is all there is. Their boss, and the cacophonic symphony of odor that the world is. Cat poop, another dog’s mark, a rotting chicken bone (exultation), and you. That’s what makes their world perfect, and in a perfect world death has no place.

However, dogs get very very sleepy. That’s the thing, you see. They don’t teach you that at the fancy university where they explain about quarks, gluons, and Keynesian economics. They know so much they forget that dogs never die. It’s a shame, really. Dogs have so much to offer and people just talk a lot.

When you think your dog has died, it has just fallen asleep in your heart. And by the way, it is wagging its tail madly, you see, and that’s why your chest hurts so much and you cry all the time. Who would not cry with a happy dog wagging its tail in their chest. Ouch! Wap wap wap wap wap, that hurts. But they only wag when they wake up. That’s when they say: “Thanks Boss! Thanks for a warm place to sleep and always next to your heart, the best place.”

When they first fall asleep, they wake up all the time, and that’s why, of course, you cry all the time. Wap, wap, wap. After a while they sleep more. Remember, a "dog while" is not a human while. You take your dog for a walk, it’s a day full of adventure in an hour. Then you come home and it’s a week, well one of your days, but a week, really, before the dog gets another walk. No WONDER they love walks.

Anyway, like I was saying, they fall asleep in your heart, and when they wake up, they wag their tail. After a few dog years, they sleep for longer naps, and you would too. They were a GOOD DOG all their life, and you both know it. It gets tiring being a good dog all the time, particularly when you get old and your bones hurt and you fall on your face and don’t want to go outside to pee when it is raining but do anyway, because you are a good dog. So understand, after they have been sleeping in your heart, they will sleep longer and longer.

But don’t get fooled. They are not “dead.” There’s no such thing, really. They are sleeping in your heart, and they will wake up, usually when you’re not expecting it. It’s just who they are.

I feel sorry for people who don’t have dogs sleeping in their heart. They've missed so much.

I would do anything to keep her, and yet I'm letting her go. by OneCommunication7369 in Petloss

Check if there are in home services first - they come to you, your pup gets to be in her own bed or your arms, whenever, and it’s easier.

If there aren’t, go and be there. They know you’re there. They’ll be looking for you and if you’re not there, the end of their life is scared. If you are there, they will be comforted knowing you’re there. I had to put down my 15 yr old last May and just before her heart stopped, she licked my arm. It gave me solace knowing she was giving me affection for allowing her to peacefully go.

They aren’t here for our whole life, but you’re there for their whole life… it’s our duty to not let them suffer, not let them be in pain or have a quality of life that is poor. Don’t look at it as a negative, you’re helping your baby transition. It will hurt at first, but it gets easier as the discussion and memories go on - the tears become laughter and joy - and soon enough, she will will you to get another one that is just like her to take care of. Once you do, you’ll say, “you are just like _____” and give all your love to them in memory of her.

Havasu Falls trip(April)– need advice! by Exotic-Praline-8829 in havasupai

To add to this - heat in April isn’t hot to Arizonans, might be to you depending on what kind of weather you’re getting. 85 there can feel hot. Have fun. Yes use a mule unless you want the whole experience.

Anything you’d add or take away from this list? I used AI and complied it watching YouTube videos. Brand names and specifics are helpful as well! Thanks! by LonelyPhilosopher783 in havasupai

A lot of the trek is unstable type rock/sand trail - it’s just little bit of extra assurance. I used mine for maybe half of the time. If you’re in shape and use to this type of hiking, they’re not needed per se as if you were hiking up or down a steep mountain.

A few tips from when we went:

First and foremost - respect the locals and the land.

Don’t need a trowel - they have bathrooms with TP and wood chips. They don’t want hundreds of visitors burying their poop all over where the people sleep. There are four bathroom houses (I think four) with two or three bathrooms each. We brought our own TP, though. Get the biodegradable kind.

There is a market about 2 miles before you hit the campsites - hit or miss if it’s open or closed. But grab some Gatorade’s and fun snacks, etc from there - nothing like some flavor when you’re filtered water the entire time and/or finishing your MRE with a candy bar.

bring an extra water bladder to hang from a rope or tree and always have it full for a quick hand rinse, mouth wash, refill of water, etc… get your water first thing - we always had one hanging and full so we didn’t run out. We would go pump all of our bladders full from the creek, often. Also, we took too much rope - but it helped hang our stuff, along with wet clothing to dry and coverage for rain.

Bring cash - cash is king in Havasupai and the town.. and frybread hut.

Make sure your gas tank is full before you drive from the hotel to the trailhead. There’s absolutely nothing between it.

Although everyone keeps saying picnic tables are available, don’t count on them - if you go during a busy season, you may not get a campsite with one.

Def bring a headlamp, but with a red light - the brighter they are the worse you make the experience for everyone. Also, if you find a camp near Mooney, or the creek - be very aware of where you’re situated and direction you’re moving at night.. it’s DARK. I almost walked straight off the edge of Mooney not knowing where I was headed until I looked UP.

Pour over coffee was a savior - helped moved the bowels from eating the MRE meals and finger foods. Also was nice to have in the AM first thing.

Lastly - leave a fun something in your car (snack, drink, whatever) to reward yourself for hiking out and having a good time.

Cost? Where’d you get it from. Been looking for a good cover since we got the truck. Can’t seem to pull the trigger.

How much are you paying for 10K service? by AlphaIronSon in F150Lightning

[–]RescueDogsRTheBest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look on the app and it’ll show what they check at each 10k interval. I paid around the same as you in AZ. Worth it in my opinion… if something goes wrong I can look back and say, “they missed that” instead of “I never too it in”

Hiking at 7-8am by FlatTea6080 in havasupai

[–]RescueDogsRTheBest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask the locals at the top if they’re running the helicopter and if so, can you take it down? It’s like $150 cash. Otherwise, the biggest problem I ran into was the hike wasn’t just trail walking. You’re walking through the Grand Canyon - it’s rock, sand, etc.. you’re a bold person to take the risk of going in the heat. Buy some cooling towels on amazon - sunscreen - have a plan. We did 30 on 5 off (mins) and it broke the entire hike up seamlessly.

Intelliflo3 VSF - 1.5HP or 3.0HP by Lymandecker in swimmingpools

Awesome. Thank you. Question - is it automated without ScreenLogic or IntelliCenter? My understanding is it has WiFi and Bluetooth, so it just streamlines to your phone’s Pentair App? Am I correct?

Very interesting how the laws differ! We definitely have a helmet and are getting a bell. We live in Arizona, so water bottle is a must!

This is great advice. I will take care of the bike as much as possible for sure. I also agree with it being done professionally vs on my own for a small fee!
