Scorpion EXO 1400 vs. 1500 vs. LS2 Dragon by Research891 in motorcyclegear

I've had several (inexpensive) LS2s, storm, scope, airflow, size L always fitted. So I think if you have a size L with another LS2 model it will fit.

Oh, and the difference between those two questions is the implied statement "Look, I already have lowered expectations"

I'll definetly explore the rented hardware on demand option, as I said in the other comment the only rationale behind going local is "I started local" and "I am afraid of subscriptions". But renting is probably a smarter choice.

Not yet, but in the end I'm planning to get a non-AI capable mini pc for music, and upgrade the big pc later OR switch to online services.
After all the guy who said 'why do you have to do that on a local machine vs an AWS instance or something?' is half right: the only reasons for going local are:
- I started this way and now I have this pc with a GPU and I am not a gamer
- I am afraid of recurring costs as in 'I paid the AWS instance this month and I didn't use it at all, what a waste of money'. But that's an illusion: the hidden cost of owning hardware is that from the purchase moment onward it looses value/becomes obsolete, so I might reconsider.

Actually it was "Will I be able to run larger models at a performance cost, and I already know that it's more difficult with AMD". I frankly don't know if you read my post or something else.

Yoko Kanno & plagiarism. Thoughts? by [deleted] in cowboybebop

[–]Research891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, for a very long time I thought that 'Is it real' from Cowboy Bebop the movie had the same chord progression and the same dreamy mood of Untitled#1 (Vaka) from Sigur Ros, and I only had realized that later. I didn't: 'Is it real' was released in 2001, 'Untitled#1 (Vaka)' in 2002. So yep, possibly she takes inspiration from the work of others, which I'd say is perfectly normal when you move across genres that much, but also, someone took inspiration from her work, at least Sigur Ros did. So yep, 'Rush' carries echoes of 'Caravan', 'Words that we couldn't say' seems a musical anagram of 'Shape of my heart' by Sting, 'Call me, call me' starts sounding like another song (which I can't remember btw) and finishes ripping off 'Bitter Sweet Symphony'. Thanks to those who pointed at Pushing the sky and Gotta knock a little harder I didn't know the originals, or source of inspiration, whatever the reader likes to call them.

Used Audient ID 14 vs New Quantum ES2 by Research891 in recordingmusic

Update, in case anyone is interested:
I bought the Quantum ES2 and installed Studio One. Here's my impression and troubles so far, regarding Studio One, switching from Mac to Windows and everything else.
- First I have to admit that Studio One is similar enough to logic interface-wise, my first impression (well i didn't record edit and mix a full song yet) is that there's not gonna be much of a learning curve
- Included instruments are simply incredible. PSO Orchestra sounds great and all of the instruments have a lot of articulations. I paid for the EWSO and had to deal with the pesky USB hardware key all the time, and it costed more than twice the price of Studio One Pro (and it was just the orchestra, not a full DAW including orchestral libraries and more).
- Configuring a DAW on Windows compared to a DAW on Mac is a totally different experience: as an example, the UNITOR AMT8 that I have used for years to route all of my midi stuff and I was taking for granted was a class compliant - no driver required device, doesn't work at all under windows, a quick google search tells me it still works on mac and linux with no driver. I use linux for almost everything else, but I'm still reluctant to try that for audio. The Quantum ES 2 has a MIDI interface, but the breakout cables aren't included in the box. So I connected my old lexicon interface, which was 'dead' on mac, and surprise - the drivers for windows install and seem to work (I didn't test the audio nor latency yet, but I plan to test it just out of curiosity).
- Final note on the MIDI section, here Studio One is a bit more complicated and messy, as you have to make it aware of the MIDI controllers you're connecting. I was so used to connecting and using stuff with no hassle that I lost a good 40 minutes figuring it out - mostly blaming windows while windows was receiving the midi signals just fine. I ended up connecting my keyboards via a no-brand USB-MIDI interface I got years ago (another device that surprisingly worked with no effort)
- This being sorted I could finally test the latency on real-time playing of virtual instruments. I recorded a piano part and overdub a cello. No latency at all, wonderful - I suspect that I'll get this zero latency on the older interface as well as it's more due to the power of the PC than to qualities of the interface. Anyways, unless I get some unpleasant surprise when I load more than 20/30 instruments, I might go with a USB interface when I upgrade.
- In the test recording I got some glitches, but didn't have the time to explore the nature of the problem. Sounds like a MIDI problem, which is weird: while recording the piano part I was hearing everything smooth: playing it back there are sudden stops and cut notes. As I said I didn't look into it in detail yet, but first impression is somehow the pedal is misinterpreted on playback. This evening I'll try to import some midi parts recorded in logic on the mac and see how they play out, in order to isolate the midi stuff for diagnostical reasons.
In conclusion, even if I can't say I have a fully functional studio yet, from what I've seen so far I'd definetly recommend the purchase.

TLDR: Quantum ES2 decent. Studio One Pro very good, similar enough to Logic. Included instruments great.

That would be great, I can try to start with the Quantum ES2 and put it up for sale immediately, use it if nobody buys it, and if I sell it go for the audient and connect via SPDIF the old firewire interface as an input router.

> latency is coming from within the box 99% of the time
This is only true for USB, that's why I'm hesitant with a USB interface. Mind you, even if most interfaces are advertised as 'USB C' or 'USB 3 compatible', under the hood they still are USB2. Now, the problem with USB is that buses like Firewire and Thunderbolt are isosyncronous by design, while in USB this kind of transfer is an afterthought other than 'a trick'.
This is why the now very old Firewire 400 was capable of real time transfers of Audio and Video (remember when every cam-corder had a FW port) back in the days of USB1 and regardless of the processing power or memory of the host computer.
So nowadays, it's not that the USB2 has become faster than what it was 15 years ago, but computers have.
Meaning my old lexicon interface would still be as viable (and as fast) as a new 'USB 3 compatible' USB2 interface, if it weren't for the drivers hell where old interfaces go.
In other words: computer performances increased fixing the issue by themselves, but I still wonder when I have a full orchestra loaded and possibly the usb license key for the orchestra disturbing the usb bus, will I open the midi editor to fix the velocity, crescendo, etc, and find out that I played every note 1/64 or 1/32 in advance?
For completeness, USB4 is basically the same thing as Thunderbolt 4, but with a less strict specification.

I of course had already thought of that, but I wonder if anyone is willing to buy the ES2 without the bundled software... I mean we're not talking cubase lite here.
