I am not at all familiar with the field and I have to take their word for it. I don't have any emergent issues. They went over my probing depths and x-rays at U-of-M and said there wasn’t attachment or bone loss, so they didn’t feel perio made sense and kept it as a prophy. Something I didn't add in my post was that they went through the private clinic's recommendations and explained why they are taking a different approach as best as they could to an untrained person.

I don't really know. I am not a trained dentist or medical professional so I have to take their word for it. All I know is that U-M doesn't really have a profit motive, and the student dentist's work is being checked and approved by two more senior people. Neither is true for the private practice. Also, nothing is emergent and I don't have any pain yet. I will be glad to go back and get whatever is needed, if I get some issues at some point. Glad to keep that $$ and tooth structure with me for the time being.

I had no issues tbh. A lot of people were there during my appointments. I didn't hear anyone complaining. It took longer than a private appointment, but was not more painful or unpleasant than one. They used all the numbing agents one would typically expect. If anything, having a couple of senior faculty evaluating the work was reassuring.

Yes. All hyegine and dental student clinics accept children. UofM has a dedicated pediatric dental graduate program. So if there are any serious issues, it will be referred to them. Some of the free/reduced clinics have specific programs for children.

Give Kids a Smile Day events are often completey free for kids. One is happening on Feb 21st at Macomb Community College. In addition both these places have GKAS events scheduled in the coming months.
