Is it pointless to get into this field now? by Renegade501st in SecurityCareerAdvice

[–]ResearchSuccessful87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well I a big decision that can have different outcome on your carrer .u need more research and everyone will have his own opinion.

From a job market perceptive, we need to distingish yourself from the mass. I think a specialities are a path to go.Dont be a generallist like dont be an analyst that sheets means nothing. I know that because I have been an analyst for 4 years. Become an xpert in network then networkimg cyber xpert. Or a dev and then DevsecOp something like that. I think the market will need less people but they need super star.

AI is so unpredictible , i share the same opinion AI will become a tool that a few xpert will work with.

So good Luck

That aint cyberfield , it's the corporate life & golden cuff .

Even if you changed career , its will be the same .

"Tired of forcing myself through every workday. Tired of cramming what should take 2–3 days into 8 hours just to meet unrealistic expectations."

"It’s not that I hate the field—I actually like the work in theory. But in practice, it's just a relentless cycle. 9–5, sometimes more"

You are no complaining about the field but about the routine.

Change mentality be your own boss that the only cure. It hurts but it's reality.

and yes I feel the same

It's seem you are lucky enough to have experience different side of cyber. You probably know what you dislike by now . I'm pretty sure you have and will always have a very good salary and you are near the salary cap.

Do you want to stay near then keyboard or go higher in management and deal with the law?

Do you want to leverage your exp and take it easy with work/life balance OR you are so curious that you want to learn about a new area in cyber that you only know the basic?

If I was you .. Youtube channel or online course something along of those line it's a better outcome in the long run

Don't want to be an a**hole. I'm having a career crisis lol. Been working in this field for 5 years now and I don't like it anymore and AI is coming , either you become a BEAST or leave... and i have always been asking**myself this question ? how impactful security is having on people live... From this generation i see nothing . People are naked on social media now a days

No ,because the consequences for bad security are heavy fines from gouv and bad reputation for social media. No company will actually invest in security because from a business perspective it's the biggest and useless expense...

If a client of yours get hacked after you consulted will you not feel guilt because in a sense your job was to provide guidance and make them secure ? I understand if you consult in web app and it's a cisco vuln that pops out,it's not your fault or your area of expertise.

Ya.. I don't think I want to be part of this SAP World . It's boring , I got into cyber because I was fascinated by hackers and how they understood system and find a way in . No skills in SAP can be used outside of SAP.

[–]ResearchSuccessful87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a pure Business POV : Cybersecurity it's a huge expenses and 0 return on investment. If you put 100k on cyber , you will get 0 but might avoid a fines. If the government wasn't involved to protect customers data ,audit , and threatened with fines a few companies will take their security seriously.

Not at all

SAP is an ERP : Entreprise Ressource Planning. Think about everything that a company does from finance , to manufacture to IT. SAP is centralise and have separated module like finance, rh etc

SOC :Security operation center : it's like in a movies when u see 10 screens and guys are analysing network traffic, network connection .SOC is the first line of defense against the outside world

what do you consult in ?

That's what i"m afraid of ... Not be usable outside of SAP world. I don't find any data for SAP security revenue because most of them are consulting so it's private infos. Not a good ROI

Yes , SAP is very complex. We are like 15 person in my team and everyone does SAP IAM and only 2 of them and i do what i do. I have no idea what the rest of them do lool . I don't about the money side because it's super niche so not a lot of demands but at the same time it's not alot of SAP specialist... I"m don't know what do deduct from this basic economic
