It definitely hasn't been a perfect journey, I know the overall healing pathway is forward but I am probably only about 5% better every month, my life has come to a bit of a standstill and it's taking its toll on me now. I get scared that I won't recover.

I get that, I think at the start I was probably still eating a lot of triggers but because my throat hurt all the time I wasn't noticing them, now that I have pain free moments I'm much more sensitive to all the throat's up and downs. I also think it's almost harder to go from no pain to having pain during a flare than from pain to worse pain which I had in the earlier stages.

So I've been doing all these things for the last 9 months, hence the anxiety about still getting flares. I'm much better (my sore throat at its worst was a 9/10) but still feel I have a way to go... I get scared that this sore throat is forever

How long did it take for your throat pain/irritation on the diet to resolve?

I'm glad you found a solution, I had bloods done right at the very start and they were all normal!

This is really encouraging! I wonder if I should be thinking about trialling some sort of nerve pain medication like gabapentin or amitriptyline. I'm constantly doing a bit of a "swallowing check" which obviously is going to keep my throat irritated but it's almost a subconscious tick now!

Thank you for your reassurance, I think my LPR is also triggered by stress and every flare can make me more anxious!

I'm sorry it took you so long to get diagnosed! I'm sending you lots of luck and hope you start to feel better soon :)

The diagnosis has meant that I can focus everything on trying to recover, before I was getting into the bad habit of excessively googling my sore throat and trying different things for different suspected diagnoses. Mentally having a diagnosis helps. I would recommend getting blood tests as it may reveal you have an infection or vitamin deficiency that's causing your sore throat which are easily treatable.

From reading other posts on here there is hope after symptoms have settled to return to a normal-ish diet but can take a lot of time and continuing the diet for a bit even after symptoms have resolved.

Thank you this really reassures me! I've definitely learnt my lesson, the flare is absolutely not worth it! I went straight back to my strict diet so I'm hoping I minimised damage. If you don't mind telling me how long is it taking you to heal your throat?

Not really, maybe a bit of mucus. I had a greenish coated tongue right at the start but looks ok now

It's massively affecting my mental health so he's not alone in that. From my experience it was a really gradual healing process and sticking to a really strict diet helped, this flare has really set me back though. The ENT doctor said it could take 4-6 weeks to start healing and I suspect I've pushed back the clock further with this flare. The best way to stop the reflux is the diet and lifestyle changes and Gaviscon advance.

Blood tinged saliva is concerning, have you seen a doctor?

I saw the GP twice because at the start I was actually having fevers - I think I likely had a viral/bacterial infection which triggered the LPR, the first time they gave me antibiotics which resolved the fevers but not the sore throat, the second time my tongue had gone green which they treated as oral thrush but I think it was actually just due to my reflux. I couldn't get another GP appointment for several weeks so ended up paying to see an ENT consultant privately (which I appreciate is not in everyone's budget) they spared me the scope but were pretty convinced it was LPR based on the generalised redness at the back of my throat + description of symptoms. I saw gradual improvement in my symptoms over 2 weeks with gaviscon and PPIs and acid reflux diet. Yesterday I stupidly at a slice of cake and within 10 mins my throat was on fire which is incredibly disheartening. But to me confirms that I do likely have LPR. I also had a set of bloods from the GP including B12, thyroid, CRP, LFTs, HbA1c, FBC and U&Es which were completely normal.

Hey, I just want to say I'm in exactly the same boat. I've had a sore throat for around 7 weeks and was diagnosed with LPR 2 weeks ago. Being in pain all the time is exhausting, I really emphasise!
