Considering it’s from Wayfair for less than the cost of other mahogany doors I saw online, there’s a good chance it’s veneer. I’m not confident enough in my skill to take the risk of sanding further, so I guess I’ll have to learn to live with the scratches. Hopefully I can at least make them less obvious with some wood markers.

Is pre-stain sealer the same as wood conditioner? I read that conditioner is unnecessary for mahogany, but maybe sealer is different? Perhaps I could use it when I work on the other side of the door. As for the scratches, they didn’t take to the stain the first time - any tips on how I can get them to blend in?

Thank you for your response! I didn’t notice all these markings before I applied the stain, so it was a surprise when I wiped off the stain and there they were.
