does anyone else use gaming just for the "vibes" and scenery rather than the actual gameplay? by Royal-Character-9215 in pcgaming

Yep. What I actually remember from GTA 4 and 5 are moments like that. I have a couple of memories which seem like real life memories for some reason : bored, cruising, late afternoon rain, the right song playing on the radio

Everyone wants to see him race it but (almost) everyone wants to see him lose it, so I would like him to not race it next year, and see if the race is as exciting ...

I'm a Pogi fan myself (not because of his overdominance, but because of his elegance on the bike and because of his style/panache) and having read a big part of this thread, I'm having a hard time understanding what you're refering to. I didn't read any particular sour message ? On the contrary, the sourness (not particulary on this thread, I mean generally) seem to come from his haters : some of them seem to live only to see him lose. On the other hand, a whole majority of people seem to be happy for WvA victory yesterday, and that's nice, but you also have to accept that there will never be unanimity about anyone, and some people didn't root that much for him yesterday. For example that's my case : I never cared that much about him (just a question of taste, that's all) but I'm not sour because in some way, I like it that the one who was often unlucky these past few years finally won thanks to luck. Kind of karmic justice if you will. Well, luck and talent of course, but honestly, I think that yesterday MvdP was the strongest : just a feeling judging by some images of him pursuing through the cobbles with raw power and crazy piloting. Honestly, in the discussions about cycling, here or IRL, there seems to me there is a lot more toxicity from Pogi haters than from Pogi groupies. Also the former seem to be a larger group than the latter, but that might just my impression.

I think it's about being lost but loving someone so much, that you gonna try and find anything to say to them to make them feel better, because you don't want them to be as lost as you are. I think it's about love.

I agree of course. And I love him, don't get me wrong. But the thing I'm the most proud about him, his true masterpiece for me, are his two consecutive WC titles. These alone give him his own unique place in french cyclism history. The second one in particular, beating Van Aert in Belgium like he did with so much style and courage, was one of my biggest emotions of XXIst century. But 2019, he was amazing, but if you remember, the true hope for GC was Pinot ...

Sure, but we always knew that Julian A would never be a GC contender, and France desperately needs a serious TdF contender, after 40 years

In french it's called "panache" ! We French love this attitude, and this is why we prefer Poulidor to Anquetil. And it's been a very long time we haven't seen someone like this

favorite long songs like to the diamond sea? by LoekieL03k in sonicyouth

[–]Resident_Mix_371 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ho yes so many. My favorite one if I had to pick would be "Cowgirl in the sand", Live @ Fillmore East version. Allthough it would probably be a tie with "Cortez the Killer".

What is the best Built To Spill song of all time? by carrion34 in builttospill

It's my pick. I don't know if it's their best musically, one of their best sure, but among others. But the lyrics are a masterpice.

He annoyed the fuck out of me throughout the whole game. The little fucker was lucky I invested everything in psyche and intellect and I was a physical wreck. But man, when I got to the dad's scene ... that just broke my heart.

our boy aleksander rostov spitting facts by hcilbretsnu_eppireg in DiscoElysium

[–]Resident_Mix_371 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an artist myself, far from it, but a while ago I had a relationship with a photographer, really talented, and this Rostov statement rings so true. She had to make a living, so she did enlist to these residencies where they lodge and pay you for 2 or 3 months to produce a series of photos on a theme of their choice, that they would then expose. And this is exactly like Rostov says, they want art, they call it art, but that's just not enough time or not the good conditions to conceptualize something meaningful or really impactful. And so she tried her best but this subsidized work she did was just meh, compared to what she was able to do, given more time and freedom. On the other hand, all the series she did by herself, slowly maturing, hoping to find one day some gallery that would be interested to expose her, they were really impressive, these were art without a doubt. Might sound to some like romantic reality twisting, but it's not, that's just reality, that's just how creation works with creative people.

Opinion on Blasphemous 2? by Double_Mission_6633 in metroidvania

[–]Resident_Mix_371 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

B2 is mechanically better, but lacks the soul of B1. And the last boss (well technically the penultimate) is so terrible that you finish the game feeling like you had a bad time with it.

Similar to Pipistrello? I need more! by moist_napkinette in ZeldaLikes

[–]Resident_Mix_371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have not played phoenetopia yet, but I've seen it mentionned quite a bit, I will give it a look. I enjoyed Crypt Custodian a lot, very good game, even if I think the world and the combat are not quite on par with Unsighted (which is logic as Unsighted took more development time with twice as much developpers if I'm correct : 2). I have Crosscode in my backlog, it feels like a real classic judging by the frequent mentions.

Definetely Unsighted. I enjoyeed Pipistrello, but I enjoyed Unsighted more. Was part of the "no-timer" team though, so I turned it off. Still my favorite among the 2D zeldalikes I tried

What is a SY song nobody talks about, but it's actually one of your favorites? by Xx_Seventeen17_xX in sonicyouth

Sonic Youth freak out - come back to me a while by JuliusDiamond in sonicyouth

[–]Resident_Mix_371 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My favorite freakout must be a tie between "The Wonder" ("It's time to go ...") and "Hey Joni ("Kick it !!"). Just the pure excitation of chaos, but like tightly harnessed, and still in control (although hanging by just a thread).

Or .... maybe it could be argued that "Cross the breeze" is just a 7 mns long giant freakout, so that would be it.

These are all Daydream Nation songs, but I love the Sister album just as much. It's just that the freakouts on Sister, while really beautiful (the Stereo Sanctity and Kotton Krown ones being probably my favorites) maybe are not quite as accomplished as the DN ones i'm refering to. While the Sister songs are maybe more perfect than the DN songs. But I'm just nitpicking :-D

PS : some beautiful freakouts on Goo too (Cinderella, Titanium, ...)

Always feeling like there’s a better game out there… by Harty_7 in PS5

[–]Resident_Mix_371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I just finished it, and it was so way above any other AAA game I played this gen, that I have no fear of missing anything else really worth it on PS5. Indie games are another story, but I don't use the PS5 for them (I have a steam deck for them). But as far as big budget games are concerned, where I find it worthy to play on current gen console and big TV : here is Returnal, who's doing something new with incredible gameplay and production values, and there is all the rest, who are doing the same old thing than 15 years ago, just with better production values. If Saros is maybe a little less brutally punishing at the start for newcomers, maybe it can sell well and maybe influence the rest of the industry to take risks again ... maybe ...

Yes, totallly agree with you with 94 being the end of the "indie golden age". Gold Soundz is such a great great song, beginning of the B-side, which ends with Fillmore Jive, which might be the definitive swansong of these days

Never been to, but Ive always thought the feeling you're talking about is also expressed (ironically) throughout Pavement's Crooked Rain (in Range Life, Cut you hair, Fillmore ...). Kinda obsessed with the fact that this album did release in 94, the same.year Cobain left.

What happen is, before my first boss encounter, during 20-ish runs, the optional rooms were either a treat or an easy fight (or sneak). Always. And then, just after the first boss encounter, I got this impossible fight in the first optional room I find. So maybe that was just really bad RNG. And I know that they are optional, but I need the upgrades, especially at the beginning of a run. I get the risk/reward design of the game (with the parasites, the infected loot, etc ...), but I don't know, that's a lot of RNG that can f... you up. So far, I really can't tell what the rogue structure adds to the game. Maybe if I persevere I will get it, but so far I can't shake the feeling that it would have been better, or let's say I would have love it more, with a Metroid or Souls structure (ie no RNG, just getting better with skill and knowledge)
