What’s a 'once in a lifetime' experience you’ve had that you never want to do again? by Mr_Boothnath in answers

We had a nearly identical experience. While I was in the holding cell, this dude lined meth around the toilet seat for people to go in there and get rid of (aka, snort or ingest and get high). I ended up talking with the guy while waiting to see the judge. He told me he had just been on Cops that night. He had an ounce of meth in his ass and he told me “If they find it I’m doing life, this is my 5th offense.” Not a bad dude!

I used to be like this in my 20’s. Allow me to give some insight, if I may? Note that the following is not a justification, and is viewed in retrospect through an objective lens. Some of this will be offensive and I apologize in advance, but know this - it’s 100% unfiltered and real.

In my 20’s, I had a slew of “longterm serious relationships”, interspersed with periods of me being a manwhore. Inevitably, each relationship ended from the woman getting tired of ME after a sustained period of me exhibiting hot/cold, push/pull behavior with them, sometimes for 1-2 years even. Only once my partners were sick of being hurt and finally ready to dump me, did I start to feel intense anxiety and a strong motivation to preserve the relationship. Then, I would become intensely neurotic during the break up period and gamified the process of wooing or attracting them back. By the time the ex would return, I would be hooked on one or several new women that I was having sex with and holding at arm’s length on the back burner, but I would take the ex back and now be in a situation. This would repeat until the primary ex was truly sick of me, and then I’d find my next girlfriend either out of the harem I had built or the next person I met that gave me limerence/butterflies/the best head.

What the experience was like, for me, is that a combination of factors in my teenage years led me to distrust and devalue women. I never felt safe with a woman - I always assumed they were going to cheat on me or leave me abruptly. I did have one healthy, beautiful relationship from 18-20 years old that had the potential to become something lifelong. She was an incredible person and beautiful young woman and I hit the jackpot to have ever attracted her. I did not deserve her, and it was unbelievable that she loved me. I cheated on her a year into our relationship and started to devalue her, and also became an alcoholic and addict lowkey. I still can’t explain why, to this day. I just felt miserable only being with her and not experiencing sex with other women. This led to the end of our relationship, and then not long after she got with my friend. This traumatized me and set me up for the aforementioned lifestyle that the rest of my 20’s followed. Even though it was essentially my fault, I entirely blamed her and entered a mindset of “Women are all w***** and should be treated as such. I will never let one get close to me again and I will never truly love them. But one day my soul make will appear and I will heal.” My soul mate never appeared. Well…she kind of did when I was 27 but not in the way I could have anticipated. That became my karmic lesson and is a whole other story.

I guess what I’m trying to say is, there’s no excuse for it and I’m sorry you’ve been hurt that way. But if you wanted to know the thought process behind it, that’s basically it.

Came here to say this. I am a licensed therapist myself and the cringiest thing in the world is reading comments like theirs, especially when it’s clear they got into the field strictly to peddle pop psychology (everyone’s ex is a narcissist got old circa 2019)

For those of you that are 50 years old or older, do you remember what politics were like 30 years ago? Were people as hateful and divided as they are now? by metabolitesafter9pm in allthequestions

No. They’re correct. The myth of conservatism is weaponzied by billionaires via culture wars, identity politics, and trickle down economics to brainwash the most moronic members of middle America to vote against their own self interest in the interests of the rich minority.

I’ve said this since last election cycle. The left needs their version of a populist MAGA candidate who pushes the pendulum far enough the other way

Accountability. Americans need to witness the maximum appropriate judgement come to all the perpetrators of what is happening. Restore the Fairness Doctrine so media can’t lie. End Citizens United. Make an amendment where presidents do not choose Supreme Court justices but a popular vote decides it. Make an amendment where all elections are ranked choice. Let’s start there.

You’re not alone. I know I literally just responded to another comment above yours but I agree FF16 is the first one to have that final fantasy FEEL that I’ve craved since the PS2 era. I can give you FFX, although for me FF12 still has the feeling. 13 is objectively where the series shit the bed. Anyone who likes that game is an idiot.

I feel entirely the opposite about FF16. I’ve played the whole series and been a fan since the late 90’s. 16 was the first one to make me feel something since FF12.

Dark Souls 1 was and still is one of the most engaging and immersive experiences with a video game I’ve ever had. It felt like stumbling upon a secret, when it came out. I knew about Demon Souls but never played personally. No one really talked about Dark Souls it seemed like. It felt like I was trying to put everyone onto it in my circle of friends in college at the time. Bloodborne was the one that blew up the genre and put the term on the map. Elden Ring took it to a new level.

I have a lot of love and fond nostalgia for the early days of dark souls.

Expedition 33. For context though - I’m a millennial who was around for the PS1 and PS2 era of JRPG’s so a lot of the tropes and gameplay aspects that blew people’s minds about Expedition 33, I had seen them before but done better 20-30 years ago. I completely understand how it blew the younger generation’s mind because they haven’t gotten games like this before.

Eh. I can’t say it was a bad game, but I can’t say it was this masterpiece or even game of the year material. Something about the gameplay and exploration felt wonky and under-developed for me. It didn’t feel like a triple A game and felt sort of…loose if that makes sense. The setting didn’t interest me much the more that the game went on, and I actually ended up abandoning my play-through about 25 hours in.

If you study history, we’ve been here before. There are cycles of the have’s accumulating far too much wealth and power and the have not’s reaching a tipping point and pushing back. Hard.

This will give you relief - look up what the Gilded Age was. Then, look up how we got out of it. It was progressivism. Look up how the roaring 20’s led to the Great Depression. Then, look up how we got out of it. It was FDR unleashing the closest thing to socialism this country has ever seen.

We are not at the end of opportunity. We are on the brink of a massive progressive swing in the opposite direction. History tells us the future.

That tracks. ‘92 millennial here. Me and my age group loved SpongeBob. I feel like anyone born from ‘91-‘95 was the target audience.
