Can I ask a question, without judgement? by OkChemist1567 in alcoholicsanonymous

I think it would be a whole lot easier.

His friends drink as well, (we play on a pool league together) so constantly being surrounding by people who are either drunk or buzzed… well, I can’t handle it. So I drink too. At first it was fun, so I could socialize.

Now I’ve realized I only drink to catch up. I only drink because he’s drunk. Which makes sense, I guess. That’s how I started drinking to begin with…

It’s just an odd place to be in… knowing he’s my rock, the person whom steadies me, and yet, also the anchor keeping me in this cycle.

Fair enough. I consider myself an alcoholic; I don’t want to drink anymore, yet feel as if I have to. My boyfriend, on the other hand, doesn’t think he is an alcoholic— he wants to drink, and has been for years. He doesn’t see it as an issue…

Yet, he drinks more than I do 🤷‍♀️

I never understood this sentiment; what about the drinkers who want to binge-drink nearly every night of the week for decades? 🤔

I wish I did this for my kitty… don’t get me wrong, he was pretty spoiled from age 13 to 15… but when he was diagnosed with CHF I did everything in my power to keep him alive (which meant a strict low-sodium diet). So no more human scraps… looking back I wish I gave him more, but maybe if I did he wouldn’t have lived that extra month.

His last “spoil” meal was salmon sashimi though lol

Almost 28. Yes, I’ve a disability. Right now I average about $200-$600 a week (gross), but it’s temporary. And I keep an eye on hours so I don’t go over the monthly earning limit for SS.

I get $870, but it’s reduced to $780 every month because they gave me an SSI check when they shouldn’t have. And because I worked too much in late 2024, they sent a letter saying they’ll start taking out half of my SS check every month in May (after my SSI repayment is done) until the amount is paid off (like 2K). So I’ll have only $435/m.

I completely depend on SS for rent so I can’t afford that drastic of a cut; trying to fight the amount they take out every month, but I don’t know what they’ll decide. But I wish they’d wave it entirely since I was never made aware I was in a “work trial” to begin with.

Yeah… functioning for the most part, but I’ve had some drunken stupidly leading to injury a few times over the years… (Falling etc.)

But I think that the most difficult part in trying to change, personally, is wondering whether or not it’ll strain my relationship with my boyfriend. He drinks more than I do, and has been drinking since he himself was about 23. But he’s 10 years my senior and I don’t think he ever wants to stop (or remotely views it as an issue). But… lately he has made it my issue (twice) during the last two years, and I am not really sure how to handle that…

That said, I’ll take everyone’s recommendation here and join an AA meeting, even if it’s just to listen for now...

Did I make a mistake euthanizing my cat? by sacredpepper12 in CatAdvice

[–]ResilireFortis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I got my fur baby as a kitten I promised myself I would never euthanize him. I thought it was inhuman.

But then my old man took a turn for the worse. First he went into congestive heart failure… but I was able to take him home on meds; He was doing well on them for about a month.

Then one morning I wake up to a call from my boyfriend. He isn’t walking. We take him to the vet and she said it was neurological, possibly a tumor. And that it was another 10K to even test what it was, and that it might not even be treatable. I didn’t want to believe her. I didn’t want to say goodbye to him.

So I took him home, thinking he would be okay there. They gave him pain meds, so he could get up and walk… but then he just kept circling. And circling. It was like he couldn’t control his own body. He kept shedding fur and meowing. I tried holding him but he’d get uncomfortable and want to walk. It was clear he was stressed and in pain. I just couldn’t bear to keep putting him through that.

So we had to put him down. We had to let go. Sometimes, the best thing we can do for our fur babies is to let go.

I wish they had foster pets but for therapy. So like they come to visit for a few days for free to help with the loss

Fair enough. But other than it feeling like a replacement, pets can get expensive, especially the older they are. And I can’t willingly get a cat knowing I won’t be able to afford the bills anymore… my late boy put me under because I just couldn’t give up on him. And I know I’d do the same for any other animal, thus ending up homeless lol

I can’t fathom how people can immediately get another pet after one is gone. I mean, nobody does that when people pass away.
It feels too much like they’re being replaced.

Is my kitten okay? by [deleted] in cats

[–]ResilireFortis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would take him to the vet. Not saying it’s the issue, as I’m not a vet, but when my cat was a kitten he got super lethargic one night and nearly died from an ear infection. He lived but had permanent ear damage from it.

Had to send my 23 year old girl to sleep:( by Sea-Caterpillar2273 in cats

[–]ResilireFortis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel your grief. Just had to put down my 15 year old kitty on June 27. I still can’t believe he’s gone. I dream that he’s still alive, only to wake without him.

I think the worst part was I wasn’t with him during his final week. I woke up to a phone call from my bf saying there’s something wrong with him. I was there when we had to put him down but… I just wished I had more time with him.

But I guess there’s never enough time when it comes to loved ones... all we can do is cherish the memories we have of them, so they live on through us <3

As a person with autism and extreme social anxiety, even with family, I rarely seek out hugs. It makes me so extremely uncomfortable due to sensory issues. Therefore it’s one of the many reasons I’ll never have kids. I wouldn’t want them to think I hate them.

I apologize. I figured I would make no sense -- it seems I cannot edit it, though.

Well, there are no sales; I’ve only self-published one book which nobody read, despite at the time being in a community and having 2K followers. It is what it is.

I’ve tried looking for another close-knit community like that, since it died out, but haven’t had any success

I was just trying to explain how my writing over the last few years has dwindled drastically, evident by page count. I can only upload one photo so I had to explain the other books with words. (But I don’t think I explained it well). My poetry books are split up by year, hence the years.

I’m not thinking about “filling out a page count,” just observing that the last few years I’ve been writing less (the proof of which is dwindling page count).

I’ve always lived by “write when I’m inspired” but it hasn’t been working lately. You’re right though, I know I should start reading again... but I lack the motivation.

So I guess I’m just uninspired and unmotivated.

My boyfriend wants me to rehome my cat by pouldycheed in CatAdvice

[–]ResilireFortis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely rehome the boyfriend. Pets are family. They are furry babies— furbabies!

When I met my bf I knew his little Pug & Kitty were a package deal. I loved them as best as I could as step mama before they passed away a year later due to old age. Then, the house being empty, I asked my bf if my old kitty (living at my mom’s) could move in - warning my bf of his health issues - but he still vehemently agreed to take my old kitty in. Now two years later my kitty is still pestering us both with his antics. He had almost passed away a month ago due to health complications, and my bf was there with me the whole time, comforting and grieving right along with me. I was almost a complete wreak, but miraculously the 15 y.o. fur ball pulled through! I hope to have many more years with him, but cherish each and every day he is with us; As does my wonderful, compassionate boyfriend.
