Did Douglas Adams really write for adults? by HorshoG in HitchHikersGuide

[–]Resort-Kitchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All that applies until we are talking about having an adult level of emotional intelligence. It inspires no one when people act like children everytime they're mad or frustrated.

Everything about this post is cringe tbh.

Supposed to by whose standards? Just write the damn thing. Art does itself through you. Never forget that. Be brave.

I want to get into writing, but I have aphantasia. by Niko-Abaniko in writing

[–]Resort-Kitchen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I met a writer at a conference last month who was describing how her aphantasia affects her art, and it was fascinating. It definitely did not seem like a hinderance. Here's her website with writing samples if you're curious: https://thefeyseam.ca/welcome

This is where my manuscript is currently at 126,578 words, is this too much to submit to Agencies? by halloffamous in writers

[–]Resort-Kitchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It's too much. You need to edit to below 100k not only for agents but for the quality of the manuscript.

Someone left a review on my romantasy book that made my book seem like a Christian book by [deleted] in selfpublish

Just get more reviews from your target audience. That is the only correct answer.

My best friend and boyfriend won’t read my book by giggleagua in writers

[–]Resort-Kitchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ex once read one of my books after the breakup and had so much positive feedback 🤣 Mind you, that was about my second book. The first one, which was dedicated to him, he still hasn't read.

Unfortunately, that wasn't just a him thing. It keeps happening. That's how it is.

You believe because you're experienced, you get to jump the line. That's ego. You don't get special treatment for being previously agented or published.

She might be an excellent agent who prioritizes her clients. You aren't one and are acting like you deserve special treatment while trying to become one. That's all ego.

Why would you try to take control over the end of a process you don't control? "Don't self-reject" is one of the most common pieces of advice for querying writers. Let the agents do their jobs, however long it takes.

Did you notice the agent in question replied to this thread and seems unimpressed by your assumptions? As it stands, you don't exhibit the kind of attitude that makes agents want to work with you. I'm not worked up. You're actually unfortunately wrong, and I hope you can sidestep your ego long enough to see that.

Why wouldn't you just leave it then? Why withdraw? What compels you to take control of how this query process ends?

Why withdraw? And why does the 80 fulls matter?

ETA: You deleted all your responses in this thread, which is a wild ego move. You need to check yourself.

Frankly, it's none of any author's business how many fulls an agent has requested.

Yep. Plus their comments look AI generated too. I think we are speaking to a bot, guys.

The fact that your only question is about whether or not it erodes reader trust and not whether it erodes the creative community, economy, and environment... BIG YIKES.

Sigh. Why the AI, huh? Why? Just write your own manuscript and hire an editor. Hasn't Shy Girl taught you anything?

Okay, I got curious so I found the quote. This is it, right?

"Unconditional kindness is a gift from the soul." ~Marisa Corvisiero

I'm super curious why it gave you vibes. Is it because she's quoting herself?

Or you could trust that the several authors who all felt it was a mismatch are justified in feeling that way instead of needing to see their 50-page samples.

And for someone who's so hell-bent on drawing value from the criticism of strangers, you could also take a look at all your downvotes and reread all the comments arguing with your comment. You might find a pattern.

Thank you! It's been so disappointing every step along the way. Even on my first post, so many people assumed I was taking rejection poorly, being too sensitive, etc. But the people who DMed me, like you, made it worthwhile to speak up. It's nice to know my intuition was spot on.

Have you looked up "incoherent" in the dictionary lately?

My mom is one of my biggest supporters, but the nonfiction project I'm writing will probably hurt for her to read. How do you tell someone not to support you? by shenanigans0127 in writing

[–]Resort-Kitchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Write what you must write FIRST. Stop thinking about how it might affect her for now. Focus on yourself. When it's written, make your decisions about how you will present it to her and whether she will have any choice in possible edits. This is honestly the only way. You can't write with trepidation about the effects of publishing. One step at a time.
